Removal of Crude Oil from Oily Artificial Wastewater by Using Pulse Electrochemical Treatment
Authors
Abstract:
In this study electrocoagulation (EC) process with sacrificial aluminum anode was used to separate crude oil from synthetic oily wastewater emulsion. A preliminary experimental study was performed to evaluate the most accurate operating parameters, which are then used for the determination of crude oil removal efficiency. The experimental results indicated that electrocoagulation was very efficient andable to achieve 99% turbidity removal in less than 15 min,pH:7, current density: 125(A/m2). Also the effect of initial concentration of crude oil (2-33 g/L) in wastewater, initial volume of wastewater (600-1800 mL), effect of flow rate (5.5-16.25 mL/s) in semi batch reactor, dose of electrolyte and type of electrolyte were optimized. During the oil removal process, polarization were occurred around anode, for omitting this problem two types of current were studied as follows: “direct current (DC)” and “pulse current (PC)” however the energy consumption were 0.012 and 0.0042 kWh/m3 respectively

Crude Oil Desalting by Using Nanocarbon
In the process of crude oil desalination, the aim is to separate dispersed phase of brine from oil phase. The project aim is the use of carbon nano-adsorbent for remov-al of salt from crude oil that, unlike other methods of salt separation from crude oil currently used, is a simple, inexpensive method with good ability to remove salt from crude oil. In this study, first, four types of carbon ad...
full textProducing Renewable Energy from Municipal Wastewater Treatment Using a Bio–electrochemical System
Concurrent renewable energy production and wastewater treatment are two main reasons for using microbial fuel cells (MFCs). In this study, real wastewater was used for treating and power generation by air cathode microbial desalination cells (ACMFC). The total duration of voltage generation by ACMFC was about 151.9 ±23.2 h. The maximum voltage produced from municipal wastewater treatment was 27...
full textOil Refinery Wastewater Treatment by Advanced Oxidation Processes for Chemical Oxygen Demand Removal using the Box-Behnken Method
This study investigated the reduction of the chemical oxygen demand from the Kermanshah oil refinery wastewater using Fenton and Photo-Fenton processes. The study investigated the effects of operating variables such as ultraviolet light intensity in values of 0, 15, and 30 W, ferrous ion concentration in values of 10, 50, and 90 mg/l, hydrogen peroxide concentration in values of 100, 500 and, 9...
full textBiodegradation of Crude Oil by an Artificial Microalgal-Bacterial Consortium
The extensive use of petroleum and petroleum products leads to serious oil contamination of the environment, thus considerable interests were taken in microbial degradation and detoxification of these pollutants. Microalgae play an important role in the environmental cleaning of pollutants. Microalgae provide O2 to aerobic bacteria to mineralize pollutants and then take-up the released CO2 [1]....
full textRemoval of Surfactants from wastewater by Rice Husk
Surfactants are one of the major components (10- 18%) of detergents and household cleaning products and are used in high volumes in developed countries. In the present research work, the ability of rice husk as a low cost adsorbent for anionic and nonionic surfactants in wastewater has been studied. The maximum removal efficiency for anionic surfactants was 97%, in an aqueous solu...
