Abstract:

Introduction: Workplace air quality is a very important factor in community health and is measured by measuring and evaluating airborne contaminants. One of these airborne pollutants is ammonia gas. Spray towers are important components of air pollution control. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of using diluted sulfuric acid solution on the efficiency of ammonia removal in a spray tower. Methods: In this study, the rate of ammonia removal from the air stream was measured using a spray tower in the laboratory, by changing the liquid pressure and nozzles and the inlet density. The volume of air flow used was 3737.82 l/min and the nozzle used was 20 microns in diameter, one, two and three, with dilute sulfuric acid solution. Data were analyzed by One-Way ANOVA and SPSS.21 software. Results: Increasing the number of nozzles and the spray pressure of the spray tower increased the spray removal efficiency and increasing the input load to the system reduces the elimination efficiency (P<0.05). Conclusion: By increasing the number of nozzles and diluting the dilute sulfuric acid solution, it is possible to achieve proper performance in spray tower removal of ammonia gas.

Influence of liquid and gas flow rates on sulfuric acid mist removal from air by packed bed tower

The possible emission of sulfuric acid mists from a laboratory scale, counter-current packed bed tower operated with a caustic scrubbing solution was studied. Acid mists were applied through a local exhaust hood. The emissions from the packed bed tower were monitored in three different categories of gas flow rate as well as three liquid flow rates, while other influencing parameters were kept a...

اثر تعداد نازل، تراکم گاز آمونیاک و فشار مایع شستشو دهنده آب بر کارایی حذف گاز آمونیاک در هوا در یک برج پاشنده

Background and aims: Spray tower is a cost effective and simple equipment for ammonia gas purification. But its’ appropriate performance in the removal of ammonia gas is under question. In this study, the effect of nozzle number, concentration of input ammonia gas and scrubbing liquid pressure over the removal efficiency of spray tower was studied. Methods: In present study, a spra...

Removal of Co2 from Flue Gas with Ammonia Solution in a Packed Tower

Ammonia was used for the major absorbent while sodium hydroxide was used as a reference in either a bubble column (semi-batch reaction) or a packed tower (continuous reaction) to absorb CO2 in this study. In the bubble column, bubbling time as a function of temperature, pH, and dissolved inorganic carbon concentration in the solution was measured to see the characteristics of the reaction and t...

Pretreatment of rice straw with combined process using dilute sulfuric acid and aqueous ammonia

BACKGROUND Use of lignocellulosic biomass has received attention lately because it can be converted into various versatile chemical compounds by biological processes. In this study, a two-step pretreatment with dilute sulfuric acid and aqueous ammonia was performed efficiently on rice straw to obtain fermentable sugar. The soaking in aqueous ammonia process was also optimized by a statistical m...
