Relationship between motherʾs temperament traits and children attention deficit hyperactivity symptoms: with mediating role of parenting styles

Abstract:
Aim: The aim of present study was to determine the Relationship between motherʾs temperament traits and children attention deficit hyperactivity symptoms: with mediating role of parental styles. Methods: This study was a descriptive- correlation one. The statistical society was containing of all mothers of primary school students of Tehran city who were educating in 2017- 2018 year that were selected by multistage cluster sampling model from among of statistical society. For data collection, was used from Cloningerʾs temperament and character questionnaire, Baumrindʾs parenting styles questionnaire and Connerssʾs parent questionnaire. Results: The results of the study showed that parenting styles can mediate the relation between motherʾs temperament traits and children attention deficit hyperactivity symptoms. Novelty seeking had indirectly effect on ADHD symptoms and authoritative style had mediator role in this relationship (P32/0 =β، 01/0>). Harm avoidance had indirect effect on ADHD symptoms and authoritative style had mediator role in this relationship (P<0.0137/0 =β،). Persistence had indirectly effect on ADHD symptoms and authoritative style had mediator role in this relationship (P37/0 =β، 01/0>).Conclusion: mothers with harmful temperament traits, in parents- child interaction demonstrate non- authoritative style that cause ADHD symptoms in their children.
