Abstract:

A number of redox-active coordination polymers (CPs) or metal- organic frameworks (MOFs) have been successfully synthesized using transition metals and bridging ligands. This article aims to deal with gathering the aforementioned disperse issues regarding the electroactive CPs. It also goes towards illustrating the effects of various factors on the electrochemical behavior of CPs including nature of the ligand and its substitutes, metal centers, nanoporous coordination cages, coordinating atoms, solvent and temperature. Electrochemical investigations of CPs could bring insights into metal interactions and electronic communications caused by π-conjugated backbone insights into metal interactions and electronic communications caused by π-conjugated backbone of the bridging ligand. Furthermore, some fundamental aspects of electrochemistry and a few interesting applications of CPs will be addressed in this paper.

Photophysics and redox behavior of chiral transition metal polymers.

The absorption and emission spectra, excited-state lifetimes, quantum yields, and electrochemical measurements have been obtained for a new series of chiral complexes based on three different chiral 2,2':6',2' '-terpyridine ligands, (-)-ctpy, (-)-[ctpy-x-ctpy], and (-)-[ctpy-b-ctpy], with one, two, or multiple Ru metal centers. The room-temperature absorption and emission maxima of [[((-)-ctpy)...

Electrochemical Sensors Based on Organic Conjugated Polymers

Organic conjugated polymers (conducting polymers) have emerged as potentialcandidates for electrochemical sensors. Due to their straightforward preparation methods, unique properties, and stability in air, conducting polymers have been applied to energystorage, electrochemical devices, memory devices, chemical sensors, and electrocatalysts.Conducting polymers are also known to be compatible with...

Redox tunable viologen-based porous organic polymers

The use of an organic donor–acceptor polymer containing a viologen electron acceptor and triarylamine electron donor as a platform in the development of multifunctional materials is presented. The highly robust porous organic polymer (POP) system allows for exploration of the interplay between electronic and host–guest interactions in the synthesized polymers, POP-V1, which contains a redox-act...

Nanostructure and hydrogen spillover of bridged metal-organic frameworks.

The metal-organic frameworks (MOF) with low and medium specific surface areas (SSA) were shown to be able to adsorb hydrogen via bridged spillover at room temperature (RT) up to an amount of full coverage of hydrogen in the MOF. Anomalous small-angle X-ray scattering was employed to investigate the key relationship between the structures and storage properties of the involved materials. It was ...

Shrink wrapping redox-active crystals of polyoxometalate open frameworks with organic polymers via crystal induced polymerisation.

We report examples of crystal surface modification of polyoxometalate open frameworks whereby the use of pyrrole or aniline as monomers leads to the formation of the corresponding polymers via an oxidative polymerization process initiated by the redox active POM scaffolds. Guest-exchange experiments demonstrate that the polymers can finely tune the guest exchange rate and their structural integ...
