Abstract:

In this Study, vanadium recovery from the steelmaking converter slag was studied. Salt roasting-basic leaching is the process which was applied to separate and extract vanadium from steel making slag. Ground slag was roasted after mixing with determined quantities of sodium carbonate. The effect of time and temperature of roasting and sodium carbonate content were studied. The optimum temperature, time and sodium carbonate content in the roasting process were found to be 1000oC, 45 min and 10%, respectively. Temperature, time, leachant concentration and particle size were optimized for leaching process. It was determined that sodium carbonate is the major leaching agent in comparison with sodium hydroxide. The most suitable conditions for leaching process was found to be 80oC, 60 min, sodium carbonate to sodium hydroxide mass ratio of 40-50:10 and particle size between 100 and 120 mesh. More than 80% of vanadium was recovered under optimum conditions.

Vanadium extraction from a magnetite ore using alkaline roasting and acid leaching processes: optimization of parameters by response surface methodology

In this work, thealkaline roasting and sulfuric acid leaching processes were employed to extract vanadium from the magnetite ore of Saghand mine in central Iran. The response surface methodology based on the central composite design model was applied to optimize the parameters involved in the processes. The studied roasting parameters were temperature (900-1100 °C), sodium carbonate percentage ...

Occupational Stress Among Male Employees of Esfahan Steel Company, Iran: Prevalence and Associated Factors

BACKGROUND Lack of data on occupational stress among Iranian industrial employees persuaded us to design and conduct this study to evaluate the prevalence and associated parameters of occupational stress among male employees of the Esfahan Steel Company (ESCO), one of the biggest industrial units in Iran. METHODS In this cross-sectional study, 400 male employees were sampled from the operatio...

Recovery of Copper from Copper Slag and Copper Slag Flotation Tailings by Oxidative Leaching

Copper smelter slag and copper smelter slag flotation tailings were leached using sulphuric acid solutions, without or with the addition of either ferric sulphate or hydrogen peroxide. Copper extraction from the slag was typically found to be twice as high as that from the slag flotation tailings. Hydrogen peroxide was determined to be the best lixiviant. Thus, copper and iron extractions were ...

Steel Slag Utilization in Asphalt Mixes

Steel slags are the major byproduct from the conversion of iron to steel in the basic oxygen (major type), electric arc and open hearth (minor type) steelmaking processes. Steel recovery from the slag results in a processed aggregate with both positive (wear resistant, skid resistant, rough textured, angular, well graded, stripping resistant) and negative (heavy, expansive) features. Considerab...
