Abstract:
By a quasi-permutation matrix we mean a square matrix over the complex field C with non-negative integral trace. Thus every permutation matrix over C is a quasipermutation matrix. For a given finite group G, let p(G) denote the minimal degree of a faithful permutation representation of G (or of a faithful representation of G by permutation matrices), let q(G) denote the minimal degree of a faithful representation of G by quasi-permuation matrices over the rational field Q, and let c(G) be the minimal degree of a faithful representation of G by complex quasi-permuatation matrices. Let r(G) denote the minimal degree of a faithful rational valued character of G. In this paper we will calculate c(G), q(G), p(G) and r(G) where G= Sz(q) is the Suzuki group . Also we will show that lim .

We give a new infinite family of group homomorphisms from the braid group Bk to the symmetric group Smk for all k and m ≥ 2. Most known permutation representations of braids are included in this family. We prove that the homomorphisms in this family are non-cyclic and transitive. For any divisor l of m, 1 ≤ l < m, we prove in particular that if m l is odd then there are 1+ m l non-conjugate hom...

In [2], we gave algorithms to calculate c(G), q(G) and p(G) for a finite group G. In this paper, we show that for a finite p-group G, where p is a prime, q(G) = p(G). Moreover, for odd prime p, c(G) = q(G) = p(G). 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: primary 20D15; secondary 20B05, 20C15
