Prothrombin Time, an Indicator for Psoriasis Activity: A Case - Control Study
Authors
Abstract:
Background: Psoriasis is a common chronic and recurrent inflammatory skin disorder related to the immune system and characterized by the rapid growth of skin cells. To date, no study has been conducted on the role of the prothrombin time index in determining the disease activity and the prognosis of these patients. Recognizing the factors influencing the prognosis of this disease can be helpful. The aim of this study was to investigate the plasma levels of prothrombin time measured in patients with psoriasis, its association with the severity of the disease and its comparison with those of healthy people. Materials and Methods: In this case-control study, we evaluated 20 age- and sex-matched patients with psoriasis and compared them with healthy people. A PASI criterion was used to measure the severity of the disease. In both groups, prothrombin time were assayed using a standard kit. Results: The results showed prothrombin time in the patients and healthy people were 12.213±0.638 and 12.313±0.423 seconds, respectively. The two groups were not significantly different in terms of prothrombin time. (P=0.562). Conclusion: This study revealed that prothrombin time were not affected by severity of the disease. prothrombin time were not significant In the two groups, and cannot serve as a biological marker for psoriasis activity.Further studies are needed to identify prognostic factors for psoriasis.

Insulin resistance in psoriasis: A case-control study
Background: Recent studies suggest that psoriasis may be a pathogenic factor for the metabolic syndrome and atherosclerosis. The aim of our study was to investigate the metabolic state in psoriatic patients in order to clarify the association between psoriasis and insulin resistance. Methods: This single-centre, case- control study was performed between 2008 and 2010 to evaluate the metabo...

Background and objective: Psoriasis is chronic inflammatory skin disorder with a wide variety of clinical presentations. Presence of anti-gliadin antibody (AGA) has been reported in 16% of psoriatic patients. This study was designed to determine the frequency of the presence of AGA in psoriatic patients. Materials and Methods: After recording the demographic data and the severity of disease acc...

BACKGROUND Several studies stated that patient with psoriasis carried an increased risk of psoriasis but some studies did not demonstrate this association. OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of hypertension in psoriasis based on a sample of Spanish population. full textdevelopment and implementation of an optimized control strategy for induction machine in an electric vehicle
in the area of automotive engineering there is a tendency to more electrification of power train. in this work control of an induction machine for the application of electric vehicle is investigated. through the changing operating point of the machine, adapting the rotor magnetization current seems to be useful to increase the machines efficiency. in the literature there are many approaches wh...

BACKGROUND Epidemiologic studies have provided new insights into the association between psoriasis and cardiovascular diseases. Previous population studies have examined hypertension frequency in psoriasis patients. However, the relationship between severity of hypertension and psoriasis has not been characterized. OBJECTIVE We sought to investigate whether patients with psoriasis have more d...
full textCalcium channel blockers intake and psoriasis: a case-control study.
In vitro evidence suggests that intracellular calcium metabolism influences keratinocyte differentiation. However, only a few reports have described exacerbation of psoriasis or psoriasiform eruptions due to intake of calcium channel blockers. We conducted a case-control study to evaluate the association between exposure to calcium channel blockers and psoriasis. Data were obtained through a re...
