The exponential functions of central-symmetric $X$-form matrices

It is well known that the matrix exponential function has practical applications in engineering and applied sciences. In this paper, we present some new explicit identities to the exponential functions of a special class of matrices that are known as central-symmetric $X$-form. For instance, $e^{mathbf{A}t}$, $t^{mathbf{A}}$ and $a^{mathbf{A}t}$ will be evaluated by the new formulas in this par...

Ela Spectral Properties of Sign Symmetric Matrices

Spectral properties of sign symmetric matrices are studied. A criterion for sign symmetry of shifted basic circulant permutation matrices is proven, and is then used to answer the question which complex numbers can serve as eigenvalues of sign symmetric 3 × 3 matrices. The results are applied in the discussion of the eigenvalues of QM -matrices. In particular, it is shown that for every positiv...

On the Block Triangular Form of Symmetric Matrices

We present some observations on the block triangular form (btf) of structurally symmetric, square, sparse matrices. If the matrix is structurally rank deficient, its canonical btf has at least one underdetermined and one overdetermined block. We prove that these blocks are transposes of each other. We further prove that the square block of the canonical btf, if present, has a special fine struc...

Central form of multiple symmetric lipomatosis: a case report

Multiple symmetric lipomatosis (also known as Madelung's disease, Launois-Bensaude syndrome or benign symmetric lipomatosis) is a rare disease, the etiology of which is unknown. Multiple, symmetric, non-encapsulated lipomatous masses on the face, neck, upper arms, and upper trunk are typical in most cases. Five out of the 200 cases reported in the literature were the distal form of the disease;...

Commutation properties of the form sum of positive, symmetric operators

A new construction for the form sum of positive, selfadjoint operators is given in this paper. The situation is a bit more general, because our aim is to add positive, symmetric operators. With the help of the used method, some commutation properties of the form sum extension are observed.
