Propagation and cultivation of aquarium plant Cryptocoryne
Authors
Abstract:
Undoubtedly having lush and interesting plants in the aquarium, in addition to beauty, has a favorable effect on fish. These plants, in addition to create beauty in the aquarium space, provide an environment close to the natural habitat of ornamental fish. The benefits of using aquatic plants in the aquarium include adjusting the water hardness and pH, increasing the dissolved oxygen in the water, and ultimately maintaining the relative health of the fish. The plant Cryptocoryne is a member of Araceae family and having more than 50 different species distributed throughout Southeast Asia. More than 20 species are being used for aquarium decorations in the world. Due to the reddish brown leaves, the plant has high value as an aquarium herb and has a very high export potential. The present study investigates morphological, ecological characteristics, distribution, propagation, cultivation and also introduces several species of this plant.

There is a variety of methods used for growing plants indoor for laboratory research. In most cases plant research requires germination and growth of plants. Often, people have adapted plant cultivation protocols to the conditions and materials at hand in their own laboratory and growth facilities. Here I will provide a guide for growing some of the most frequently used plant species for resear...

Phytochemical Screening and Antibacterial Activity of Cryptocoryne spiralis var. spiralis and Cryptocoryne retrospiralis (Roxb) Kunth
Phytochemical screening and their antibacterial activity of plant are important parameters which lead to the isolation of new and novel compounds. Cryptocoryne spiralis (Retz) Fischer ex Wydler var. spiralis (CSS) and Cryptocoryne retrospiralis (Roxb) Kunth (CR), leaf and rhizome have been selected for phytochemical screening to identify the different classes of secondary metabolites. Antibacte...
full textIn Vitro Micropropagation of the aquarium plant Ludwigia repens
Apical meristems, first, second and third-fourth axillary buds of Ludwigia repens were cultured on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium containing various concentrations of 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP), thidiazuron (TDZ) and αnaphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) for micropropagation. Micropropagation was best achieved from apical meristem on MS medium containing 0.05 mg dm TDZ and 0.1 mg dm NAA. It was noted t...
full textToxoplasma gondii in vitro cultivation: propagation
Based on a serum-free and CO,-independent culture of Toxoplasma gondii in vitro, a long-term propagation of a highly virulent strain of this parasite was developed. Toxoplasma monolayer cultures were fed on a weekly cycle with native host cells (HEp-2) while changing the medium, thus simultaneously removing cell debris and just bred trophozoites. Establishing this method was of low effort in or...
full textPlant Propagation
The preponderance of food and fiber for human consumption is derived from plants. The ability to domesticate crop plants was a pivotal point in human evolution. It permitted the transition from a predominantly nomadic lifestyle to one of more centralized communities of towns and villages. In turn, this allowed for stratification in the community for specialized activities not directly related t...
