Price Transmission, Threshold Behavior and Asymmetric Adjustment in Iranian Poultry Market
Authors
Abstract:
The Iranian poultry sector has experienced many significant structural changes in recent years. Such changes may have influenced price dynamics and transmission of shocks through marketing channels especially on retail markets. This paper investigate price transmission, threshold behavior and asymmetric adjustment in poultry sector of Ardebil (AR), east Azerbaijan (EA) and west Azerbaijan (WA) provinces using weekly price data for the period covering 1998 through 2012. Our analysis uses a threshold cointegration model that permits asymmetric adjustment to positive and negative price shocks. R software is used for data analyzing. Main findings reveal existence of asymmetry in price transmission for all markets. Based on minimizing of the sum of squared error (SSR) criterion the estimated threshold for EA-AR, WA-AR and EA-WA markets are (0.38, 1.217), (1.61, 0.211), (0.38, 1.95), respectively. As another try the thresholds are estimated using TVECM methodology and the same results are found.

full textPrice Transmission Mechanism in the Iranian Rice Market
In this article, we estimate the vertical price transmission through the Iranian rice marketing chain by usingmonthly data from March 2000 to February, 2009 and error correction model (ECM).The causality testresults indicate that changes in the producer price clearly led changes in wholesale and retail prices. InProducer-Retail and Wholesale-Retail models, price transmission is asymmetric but i...
full textasymmetric price in iranian tea import market
the impact of price changes (at a level of market) on the other market levels (transfer of prices) will affect welfare of producers, marketing agents as well as consumers. in this study, asymmetric tea market is investigated through an application of johansen co-integration analysis and error correction model (ecm model) to time series of 1976-2009. co integration method used in the import mark...
full textExplaining Asymmetric Price Adjustment
In an in nite horizon model with stochastic costs, moderate ination, costly price adjustment, and optimal price setting, we demonstrate that individual price reductions will be larger but less frequent than price increases. With positive ination, aggregate prices are more responsive to cost increases than to cost decreases, and a calibrated version of the model ts well the magnitude of downw...
