Prevention of acute ammonia toxicity in beluga, Huso huso, using natural zeolite
Authors
Abstract:
This study was accomplished to examine the efficiency of natural zeolite in preventing acute toxicity of total ammonia to Huso huso. The study was performed using Water Static Method in 96 hours. Fish averaged 46 ? 5 g in weight and 22 ? 4 cm in total length were exposed to four different concentrations (15, 30, 50, 75 mgL-1) of ammonia and a group was considered as control. Under stable condition, the lethal concentration of ionized ammonia was 75 mgL-1 in 96 hours. In the lethal concentration of total ammonia, different amounts of 5, 10, 15 g.L-1 granulated clinoptilolite zeolite were used. Results indicated significant differences between treatments and control (p

Semen obtained from four Beluga males (Huso huso) was cryopreserved using extender; Tris-sucroseKCl (30mM Tris, 23.4mM sucrose, 0.25mM KCl, PH 8.0) supplemented with MeOH at concentration of 5%, 10% and 20%. Semen was diluted, respectively, with ratios of 1:0.5, 1:1 and 1:2 with extender and frozen in liquid nitrogen vapor.Frozen sperms after 30 and 60 days were excluded from freezing. Experime...

A study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary citric acid (CA) (0, 1, 2 and 3%) on the Calcium(Ca) and Phosphorus(P) content of muscle, scute and serum of Beluga (Huso huso) juveniles (25.1±1.9 g). After 8 weeks feeding on the experimental diets, Calcium(Ca) and Phosphorus(P) content of muscle, scute and serum were measured. The results revealed that addition with 2% and 3% CA sig...
full textEffect of freezing rate on motility, adenosine triphosphate content and fertilizability in beluga sturgeon (Huso huso) spermatozoa.
Broodstock selection programs are currently underway for sturgeon species. To complement and further these selection programs we need to develop sperm cryopreservation procedures. In the present study, we describe the effects of freezing rate (-10°C, -15°C, -20°C, -30°C and -40°C/min) on gamete quality characteristics (i.e., duration of motility (s), motility percentage (%), ATP content (nmol/1...
full textHistomorphogenesis of cranial nerves in Huso huso larvae
In this study the cranial nerves development of H. huso are explained from 1 to 54-days-old (1, 3, 6, 15, 21 and 54 days). Despite all the researches on fish brain, there are no study on nerves evolution on H. huso during their larvae life. For this research 40 samples of larvae H. huso were obtained (from each age, about six samples were selected). The specimens were maintained in fiberglass t...
full textEffects of Use of Combinations of Permeating Cryoprotectant (MeOH, DMSO) and Non Permeating Cryoprotectant (BSA) on Viability of Beluga (Huso huso) Post-Thawed Sperm
This experiment wascarried out to explore the effect of use of combinations of permeating cryoprotectant and non permeating cryoprotectant on thequality of frozen-thawed Beluga (Huso huso) spermas compared to the use of permeating cryoprotectant as a control. For this work methanol (MeOH) and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO)are used aspermeatingcryoprotectantsand bovine serum albuminas a non permeatin...
