Abstract:

Tm3+ , Yb3+  and Tm3+ /Yb3+  doped LaVO4 nanostructures were synthe- sized for the first time by using the hydrothermal method with the aid of La(CH3CO2)3 as  lanthanum source in presence of oleic acid as surfactant. The products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy and UV– Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. Besides, the effects of activator concentration and sensitizer on the emission intensity were investi- gated. The PL spectrum revealed that the emission intensity decreases with increase in the concentration of Tm3+ , while adding Yb3+ as sensi- tizer causes the emission intensity to increase. The LaVO4: Tm3+ /Yb3+   may possibly have potential application in enhancing the conversion efficiency of dye-sensitized solar cells by increasing the absorption of dyes.

Synthesis and upconversion luminescence of YF3:Yb3+ Tm3+ and TiO2-coated YF3:Yb3+, Tm3+ microcrystals.

YF3:Yb3+, Tm3+ microcrystals were prepared by a microemulsion method. The microcrystals were coated with TiO2 by hydrolysis of titanium n-butoxide (TBOT). Transform electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction were used to characterize the core/shell materials. The results indicated that the low TBOT/YF3 molar ratio was favorable to preparing the uniform TiO2 coatings. The upconversion luminescenc...

Tm3+ and Yb3+ in TmXO4 and Yb3+ in YbXO4 (X = P, V) from 169Tm and 170 Yb Mössbauer measurements

2014 Mössbauer measurements are reported on 169Tm3+ in TmPO4 and on 170Yb3+ in TmXO4 and in YbXO4 (X = P, V). The measured hyperfine parameters are used to provide information concerning the electronic properties of the rare earth ions. A set of crystalline electric field (CEF) parameters is obtained for Tm3+ in TmPO4 and previously proposed CEF parameters for Tm3+ in TmVO4 are discussed. The m...

A spectroscopic analysis of blue and ultraviolet upconverted emissions from Gd3Ga5O12:Tm3+, Yb3+ nanocrystals.

The spectroscopic behavior of gadolinium gallium garnet (Gd3Ga5O12, GGG) nanocrystals codoped with 1% each of Tm3+ and Yb3+ prepared via a solution combustion synthesis procedure was investigated. Initial excitation of the codoped nanocrystals with 465.8 nm (into the 1G4 state) showed a dominant blue-green emission ascribed to the 1G4-3H6 transition as well as red and NIR emissions from the 1G4...

Structural and up-conversion luminescence properties in Tm3+/Yb3+-codoped heavy metal oxide-halide glasses.

Tm3+/Yb3+-codoped heavy metal oxide-halide glasses have been synthesized by conventional melting and quenching method. Structural properties were obtained based on the Raman spectra, indicating that halide ion has an important influence on the phonon density and maximum phonon energy of host glasses. Intense blue and weak red emissions centered at 477 and 650 nm, corresponding to the transition...

Frequency upconversion of Tm3+ and Yb3+ codoped YLiF4 synthesized by hydrothermal method

In this paper, YLiF4 codoped with Tm3+ and Yb3+ ions was synthesized by hydrothermal method. Yb3+ concentration is fixed at 1.5%, and Tm3+ concentration is changed from 0.1 to 0.4%. Intense upconversion luminescence is observed when the samples are excited by 980 nm. The dependence of upconversion luminescence on Tm3+ concentrations is presented. The results show that upconversion luminescence ...
