Abstract:

The Plastic Waste phenomenon, which is the result of increasing poly (ethylene terephthalate) production and the wide range PET consumption in different industries, caused one of the major environmental concerns. Therefore, many different ways have been studied and applied for chemical recycling of PET. One of the most important ways to depolymerize poly (ethylene terephthalate) is the aminolysis procedure. In the present study, PET aminolysis reactions have been done in order to optimizethe usage of polyester wastes. The compound of polyol obtained from aminolysis reactions could be an alternative of polyols used in common synthesizes of polymeric materials in order to produce new industrial polyesters and polymers with noble features. The products then was characterized by the use of analyzing tests such as hydroxyl value determination and total nitrogen measurement based on ASTM standards and systematic analysis by FTIR, 1 H NMR, elemental analysis and differential scanning calorimetric (DSC).

Chemical Recycling of Poly Ethylene Terephthalate Wastes

Chemical recycling of Polyethylene terephthalate, PET, wastage has been investigated in this study. The aim of this work is recovery of terephthalic acid and ethylene glycols from PET waste. This process has been done in two stages. At the first stage, reaction between PET waste and sodium hydroxide for production of ethylene glycol and sodium terephthalate solution carried out in a stainless s...

Preparation and Properties of Polycaprolactone/Poly (Butylene Terephthalate) Blend

Polycaprolactone (PCL) and poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) blend was prepared by melt processing. The PCL/PBT blend showed similar morphology with that of pure PCL.The crystallization temperature of PCL was increased by the incorporation of PBT. It was also observed that the peak height in the DSC thermograms decreased and then disappeared by adding 40 % or more PBT which might be due to...

Characterization of poly(ethylene terephthalate) used in commercial bottled water

The aim of this study is to determine which compounds are present into drinking water packaged in poly(ethylene terephtalate) bottles and to know the origin of these substances in relationship with the material. A screening procedure was established for the detection of unknown compounds into bottled water. A panel of water bottles has been tested after exposure to extreme conditions of tempera...

Chemical Degradation of Poly(Ethylene Terephthalate)

The possibility of converting polyethylene terephthalate (PET) waste into terephthalic acid as a primary material by using different techniques through trans-esterification, with an alcohol and through hydrolysis in basic medium, has been investigated. In addition, utilization of activating agents such as inorganic salts and phase transfer catalysts has been investigated. Mineral water and beve...
