POTASSIUM-ARGON ANALYSIS OF DOMAL SALT BY STEPWISE DISSOLUTION

Authors: not saved
Abstract:

Potassium-argon analysis by stqwise dissolution provides a way to measure in detail the distribution of argon isotopes and potassium in rock salt. The method can be used for salt that contains only trace amounts of potassium, because the potassium and argon in detrital silicates within the salt are not released during the dissolution. Water may be used as the solvent when relatively large amounts (one gram or more) of salt are to be dissolved in each step of the analysis. Methanol may be used when relatively small amounts of salt are to be dissolved in each step, in order to obtain high spatial resolution of the distribution of potassium and argon in the salt. Although preliminary analyses show that potassium-argon relationships in the deformed salt of salt domes can be very complex, analysis of these relationships by stepwise dissolution of properly chosen samples should provide useful isotope correlations in cases where the amounts of atmospheric argon and radiogenic argon in the salt are comparable

Endoscopic Dissolution of Gastric Lipoma with Argon Plasma Coagulation

A 47-year-old patient presented from outside the hospital for evaluation of iron deficiency anemia (IDA). The endoscopic workup suggested a gastric antral subepithelial lesion with an overlying arteriovenous malformation (AVM). Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) revealed the lesion to be a lipoma. Given the patient's anemia and blood transfusion requirements, the AVM was treated with argon plasma coag...

Selenium during Stepwise Dissolution of Allende – an Exploratory Study

Abundance and isotopic composition of Se have been determined during stepwise dissolution of the Allende meteorite. From preliminary results we conclude that there is no evidence for massindependent is otopic effects larger than an (at this stage still rather imprecise) upper limit of ~1 ‰. Introduction: A so far unique class of isotope abundance anomaly is that observed in chromium during step...

Potassium-argon ages from the galapagos islands.

Potassium-argon ages of eight volcanic rocks from some of the geologically oldest flows exposed in the Galápagos Archipelago indicate that the Galápagos Islands have a probable maximum age of 3 million years. Rocks from six islands were dated; the oldest are from Española (3.2 +/- 0.2), Sante Fe (2.7 +/- 0.1), and Plazas (4.2 +/- 1.8 million years). The new data suggest that the Galápagos Islan...
