Abstract:

Chilling damage under 15ºC in anthurium cut flowers reduces the vase-life, quality and marketability of the product. In the present experiment, GABA postharvest treatment (0, 1 and 5 mM) was studied on the vase-life, total soluble solid (TSS), H2O2 content, proline content, spathe browning, catalase and superoxide dismutase enzymes activity of Anthurium andraeanum 'Sirion' during 10 days of storage at 10 ºC and 5 ºC. The results revealed that 1 mM GABA treatment at 10 ºC was the treatment of choice considering the vase-life. GABA treatment had no special effect on reducing the browning incidence. GABA at 5 mM increased the SOD activity. Furthermore, GABA reduced H2O2 levels compared to control untreated flowers. Moreover, under chilling stress, proline was the highest with GABA treated flowers. One mM treated GABA treatments hold higher catalase activity. The highest TSS belonged to 5 mM GABA under 5ºC.

Postharvest Handling of Cut Campanula medium Flowers

Various postharvest treatments were evaluated for effect on longevity and quality of cut Campanula medium L. ‘Champion Blue’ and ‘Champion Pink’ stems. Stems stored at 2 °C either wet or dry had no difference in vase life or percent flowers opened; however, flowers stored dry had a slightly greater percentage of senesced flowers at termination. Increasing storage duration from 1 to 3 weeks decr...

Effects of Azomite on Growth and Some Physiological and Biochemical Characteristics of Basil under Salt Stress Conditions

In order to investigate effects of Azomite application in reducing salinity stress in basil herb, a pot factorial experiment based on completely randomized design with three replications was conducted in the research greenhouse of Agriculture Faculty, Ferdowsi University of Mashhad. Treatments were consisted of salinity stress at three levels (0, 50 and 100 mM) as the first factor and the appli...

Evaluation of Some Biochemical Characteristics of Some Red Bean Ecotypes under Drought Stress Conditions

For evaluation of the reaction of twenty red beans ecotypes to drought stress, an experiment was conducted in split plot as Randomized Complete Block Design with 3 replications in 2016-2017 at research field of Graduate University of Advanced Technology, Kerman, Iran. In this study, the main plots were three irrigation levels and sub-plot were twenty red beans ecotypes which they are sub-popula...

Evaluation of Some Postharvest Storage Approaches on Essential Oil Characteristics of Fresh Organic Damask Rose (Rosa damascena Mill.) Flowers

Damask rose (Rosa damascena Mill.) is an economically important species in the Rosaceae family for rose oil and rose water production, obtained exclusively from freshly-gathered Damask rose flowers. Iran is famous for producing organic rose essential oil, mainly used in the perfume industry and for folk medicines due to its healing properties. Due to their high perishability, postharvest handli...

Evaluation the Preharvest Application of Iron and Nitrogen on Some Qualitative Characteristics of Two Apple Cultivars during Cold Storage

Apple is one of the most important fruits in temperate zones with a long post-harvest life during cold storage. A factorial experiment, in a randomized completely block design was used to investigate the preharvest application of Iron (0, 500 and 1000 mg Fe-EDDHA per tree) and nitrogen (0, 48 and 96 g ammonium nitrate per tree( on some postharvest qualitative characteristics in "Red spur" and "...
