Possibility Using Remote Sensing for Estimation Sediment Resources to Reservoir of Exploitation Dams
Authors
Abstract:
Sedimentation in reservoirs is a prerequisite for sustainable water management. The Dez dam is very important the country because of its role in electricity frequency adjustment. The main objective of this research is to identify the sources of sediment in the catchment using satellite images, GIS and hydro-geological information. For this purpose, the lab results of sediments mineralogy revealed that 75 percent of sediments constitute calcite, dolomite and quartz. By processing the ASTER images and applying the methods such as Band Ratio, SAM and PCA sediments resources were identified and by matching geologic formations lithology formations of the study area accuracy of the results were verified. However, the quartz mineral could not be enhanced using the mentioned methods due to its low absorptance and reflectance in visible and infrared regions For this reason the band composition (RGB) (10, 12, 13) method was applied and the best results were revealed based on the Optimum Index Factor (OIF) which then demonstrated the high purity quartz area in red and the mid purity in pink color. The results concluded that the satellite images can be a useful tool to identify sources of sediments in the reservoirs dams.

Reservoir Storage Curve Estimation Based on Remote Sensing Data
A reservoir is one of the most efficient measures for integrated water resources development and management. The reservoir storage curve is a vital parameter for multipurpose reservoir operation and its precision is a key issue for water balance and strategic risk management. Compared with the traditional approach, the method based on remote sensing RS data provides better information, which ca...
full textEstimation of soil moisture using optical, thermal and radar Remote Sensing )Case Study: South of Tehran(
Traditional methods of field measurement of soil moisture in addition to the difficulty, the need for manpower and money and fail to take place on a large scale to be able to show moisture. Therefore, remote sensing has become a widespread use .Landsat 8 satellite data and Sentinel-1 radar satellite from Tehran were provided. 72 soil samples were taken at the same time by satellite passing from...
full textSoil Moisture Estimation in Rangelands Using Remote Sensing (Case Study: Malayer, West of Iran)
Soil moisture is generally regarded as the limiting factors in rangeland production. Although many studies have been conducted to estimate soil moisture in semiarid areas, there is little information on mountainous rangelands in west of Iran. The present study aims to investigate the soil moisture estimation in rangelands as compared to the other land uses over a mountainous area in central Zag...
full textSoil Moisture Estimation Using Remote Sensing
Knowledge of soil moisture content in the root zone is important throughout a wide range of environmental applications, yet adequate monitoring or modelling of this parameter, particularly at larger spatial scales, is difficult due to its high spatial and temporal variability. To overcome the land surface model limits on soil moisture estimation accuracy, point measurement spatial coverage limi...
full textAir temperature estimation based on environmental parameters using remote sensing data
This study is aimed at estimating monthly mean air temperature (Ta) using the MODIS Land Surface Temperature (LST), Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), latitude, altitude, slope gradient and land use data during 2001-2015. The results showed that despite some spatial similarities between annual spatial patterns of Ta and LST, their variations are significantly different, so that the...
full textRemote Sensing of Tidal Situation by Monitoring Changes in Suspended Sediment Concentration in Surface Waters
Collecting information on suspended sediments concentration (SSC) in coastal waters and estuaries is vital for proper management of coastal environments. Traditionally, SSC used to be measured by time consuming and costly point measurements. This method allows the accurate measurement of SSC only for a point in space and time. Remote sensing from air-borne and space-borne sensors have proved to...
