Virulence Factors Of Uropathogenic Proteus Mirabilis - A Mini Review

Proteus mirabilis is a common causative agent of the urinary tract. This microorganism expresses several virulence factors. In uropathogenesis processes P. mirabilis can expresses adhesins, flagella, toxins, enzymes, quorum sensing and immune evasion factors. This review describes some aspects of virulence factors of uropathogenic P. mirabilis.

Lipoprotein from Proteus mirabilis.

The biosynthesis of a Proteus mirabilis outer membrane protein of molecular weight of approximately 7,000 was found to be relatively resistant to puromycin and rifampin, as is the case for the Escherichia coli liporotein. Furthermore, the existence of the lipoprotein in P. mirabilis was indicated by a comparison of the amino acid compositions of the purified free and bound forms of this protein...

Bacteriophage typing of Proteus mirabilis, Proteus vulgaris, and Proteus morganii.

A bacteriphage typing scheme for differentiating Proteus isolated from clinical specimens was developed. Twenty-one distinct patterns of lysis were seen when 15 bacteriophages isolated on 8 Proteus mirabilis, 1 P. vulgaris, and 1 P. morganii were used to type 162 of 189 (85.7%) P. mirabilis and P. vulgaris isolates. Seven phages isolated on 3 P. morganii were used to type 13 of 19 (68.4%) P. mo...

The RNA Chaperone Hfq Is Involved in Stress Tolerance and Virulence in Uropathogenic Proteus mirabilis

Hfq is a bacterial RNA chaperone involved in the riboregulation of diverse genes via small noncoding RNAs. Here, we show that Hfq is critical for the uropathogenic Proteus mirabilis to effectively colonize the bladder and kidneys in a murine urinary tract infection (UTI) model and to establish burned wound infection of the rats. In this regard, we found the hfq mutant induced higher IL-8 and MI...
