Abstract:

Koelreuteria elegans, popularly known as “Flame Gold” is an ornamental tree. In vitro callus induction and regeneration from various explants (eaf segments and cotyledonary leaf) were studied on modified MS medium. The highest callus induction rate (80%) and multiplication was obtained in 2 mg/l 2,4-D from leaf segments. Calli transferred in 1.5 mg/l BAP resulted in efficient shoot regeneration (70%) and development (4.35 shoots). MS half strength medium supplemented with 0.2 mg/l NAA reported 80% rooting after 21 days of implantation. Mostly, the roots were long and healthy. Plants were successfully transferred in sterilized mixture of vermiculite: soil: sand (3:1:1) with 65% survival rate under field conditions. The in vitro regenerated plantlets were hardened and acclimatized successfully.

In vitro organogenesis and plantlet regeneration of ( Carica

An efficient protocol was developed for micro-propagation of Indian papaya (Carica papaya L.) var. Co7. Shoot bud induction occurred on culturing epicotyl segments in MS (Murashige and Skoog, 1962) medium, followed by transfer onto shoot multiplication, elongation and rooting media. Adventitious buds were induced on MS medium supplemented with varying concentration of thidiazuron (TDZ: 0.5-10 μ...

Short communication Effect of scari®cation, GA and chilling on the germination of goldenrain-tree (Koelreuteria paniculata Laxm.) seeds

In contrast to scari®ed seeds, unscari®ed seed did not germinate in any of the treatments, indicating that Koelreuteria paniculata Laxm. seeds have hard, impermeable seed coat dormancy. Exogenous application of 100, 200 and 300 ppm GA increased germination of scari®ed seeds from 0 (control) to 17, 18 and 15%, respectively. Pre-chilling in distilled water (DW) for 60 days increased germination t...

Protective effects of Koelreuteria paniculata Laxm. on oxidative stress and hydrogen peroxide-induced DNA damage

In this study, n-butanol fraction (KBF) and aqueous fraction (KAF) isolated from methanol extract of Koelreuteria paniculata Laxm. leaves were evaluated for their antioxidant potential using (ABTS) 2, 2-Azino-bis-(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulfonic acid), DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) assay, Reducing power assay and Superoxide anion radical scavenging assay. These fractions were also studi...

Direct Plantlet Regeneration from Segments of Root of Balanites Aegyptiaca Del. (l.)- a Biofuel Arid Tree

Shoot organogenesis and plant establishment has been achieved for Balanites aegyptiaca (L.) Del. from excised root explants. Young root explants obtained from 4 weeks old aseptic seedlings were used for the induction of direct shoot regeneration by incorporating various cytokinins either singly or in combination with auxins in Murashige and Skoog (MS) basal medium. Root explants cultured on MS ...
