Phytochemical analysis of Cyperus rotundus hexane fraction by GC-MS and total oligomeric flavonoid fraction by 4D GCXGC TOF-MS
Authors
Abstract:
Cyperus rotundus (CR) is a traditional medicinal herb, and recent studies demonstrated its pharmacological effects to cure neurological disorders. In our earlier reports, we also found that CR exerts anxiolytic effects and improves memory impairment in hypoxia-induced rats. In vitro CR also effectively ameliorates oxidative stress-induced SH-SY5Y neuronal cell damage. In the present study, we evaluated the phytochemical composition of hexane fraction, and total oligomeric flavonoid fraction of Cyperus rotundus. The GC-MS analysis showed a variety of chemical constituents in the hexane fraction, and the 4D GCXGC TOF-MS analysis also revealed several phytochemicals present in TOF fraction of C. rotundus. The detected phytochemical constituents of hexane and TOF fraction of C. rotundus may account for the reported pharmacological benefits. The study demonstrates the potential use of CR for the treatment of oxidative stress associated diseases.

Characterization of oligomeric polypropyleneglycol acrylate by GC, SFC and MALDI-TOF-MS.
Polypropyleneglycol acrylate (PGA), one of the typical acrylic oligomers manufactured industrially, was comprehensively characterized by gas chromatography (GC), supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) and matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS). The homologous series of polypropyleneglycol diacrylate (DA), polypropyleneglycol monoacrylate (M...
full textUse of Soft and Hard Ms Ionization Techniques for Unknown Compounds Elucidation by Gc-tof Ms
Investigation of trace level non-target compounds by GC-MS often is a challenging task that requires powerful software tools to detect the unknown components, to obtain the deconvoluted mass spectra, and to interpret the data if no acceptable library match is obtained. In this paper, the complementary use of EI and CI is investigated in combination with GCTOF MS for the elucidation of organic n...
full textStereochemical Analysis of Monodeuterated Isomers By GC/MS/MS
GC/MS/MS techniques to quantitate mixtures of acyclic stereoisomers are explored for a set of secondary n-alkyl phenyl ethers vicinally substituted with deuterium. Examination of a set of test compounds using a commercial quadrupole ion trap instrument (GC/QIT) reveals large differences between threo and erythro diastereomers when trapped molecular ions expel neutral alkene as a result of colli...
full textChemical Analysis of Pesticides Using GC/MS, GC/MS/MS, and LC/MS/MS
There are well over 500 registered pesticides worldwide for use in agricultural regions and new agrochemicals are introduced to the marketplace continuously. This chapter deals with the chemical analysis methods for the main pesticide chemical classes that are most frequently analyzed with gas chromatography (GC) or liquid chromatography (LC) coupled to mass spectrometry (MS). GC amenable pesti...
