Abstract:

Barleria cristata Linn. belongs to family Acanthaceae is commonly known as Raktajhinti and VajraDanti. A wide range of major chemical constituents like triterpenes, phenolic compounds, flavonoids and glycosides are reported to be present. This plant has been observed to bear multifarious ethno medical uses in treating lung disorders, inflammatory conditions, toothache, anemia, and snakebite. The plant exhibited diverse pharmacological actions such as anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, and antioxidant activities. The literature survey revealed that there is no sufficient information available till now to documented standardization of Barleria cristata Linn. The proposed research work involves pharmacognostic and phytochemical investigation of Barleria cristata Linn. (Leaf). This study would be useful in preparing a monograph for authentication and standardization of crude drug.
