Abstract:

This paper presents the performance investigation of multi-phase voltage source inverter (VSI) with simple PWM switching techniques namely the harmonic injection and offset injection method. The technique discussed in this paper is easy to implement and avoid complicated controlling algorithm adapted in SVPWM technique. A generalized algorithm suitable for odd number of phases is developed in Matlab/Simulink environment and discussed in detail for both the switching methods. The performance of the 5, 7 and 9-phase VSI is studied with the above said switching methods. The simulation results are presented for different modulation indices and a comparison in terms of fundamental voltage and THD identifies the better scheme suitable for multi-phase inverter fed drives.

Comparison of PWM Techniques and Inverter Performance

Due to large application of induction motors in industries, it has become prudent to work on its speed control. As the inverter provides better sinusoidal voltage or current, speed control of machines becomes more fine. It is possible only if inverter gets better gate pulses. Hence for testing of quality of inverter output voltage or current, %THD and switching frequency are two important param...

Simple Analytical and Graphical Methods for Carrier-Based PWM-VSI Drives

This paper provides analytical and graphical methods for the study, performance evaluation, and design of the modern carrier-based pulsewidth modulators (PWM’s), which are widely employed in PWM voltage-source inverter (VSI) drives. Simple techniques for generating the modulation waves of the high-performance PWM methods are described. The two most important modulator characteristics—the curren...

Implementation of Different Current-controlled Pwm Strategies for Vsi

Many current-controlled PWM methods have been proposed to design high performance of current control for grid-connected inverters in distributed power generation systems. However none of them have good performance in providing low THD and, at the same time, good robustness to parameters mismatch. Two different current control methods, namely, traditional predictive current controller and robust...

Performance of optical burst switching techniques in multi-hop networks

In this paper, we investigate the performance of reservation mechanisms for optical burst switching (OBS) in multiple hop network environments. We first review current research on wavelength reservation schemes for OBS, and investigate the path length priority effect of existing justenough-time (JET) scheme. And then, we propose a novel hopby-hop priority increasing (HPI) scheme. The simulation...

Modulation and System Techniques in PWM and SDM Switching Amplifiers*

Continuousand discrete-time switching audio power amplifiers are studied both with and without feedback. Pulse-width modulation (PWM) and sigma–delta modulation (SDM) amplifier configurations are simulated and their interrelationship is described using linear phase modulation (LPM) and linear frequency modulation (LFM). Distortion generation encountered when applying negative feedback to PWM is...
