Performance evaluation of trapezoidal teeth labyrinth seal
Authors
Abstract:
The present paper investigates the effects of the trapezoidal teeth labyrinth seal on the leakage amount in gas turbines. The influences of increasing the number of teeth from 1 to 6 with step 1 and the tip clearance s=0.5 to 7.5 mm on the leakage flow at different pressure ratios of PR=1.5, 2 and 2.5 are examined, comprehensively. The analysis is performed numerically using a Finite-Volume software with the k-ε turbulent model. The obtained results show a good agreement in comparison with the other research results. The results show that an increase in the number of teeth causes a decrease in the leakage flow. An increase in the tip clearance (s) from 0.5 mm to around 7.5 mm leads to a decrease in the leakage flow, like the step labyrinth behavior, while an increase beyond 7.5 mm results into a leakage increase, the behavior of the straight labyrinth.

An Approach to Optimal Design of Trapezoidal Labyrinth Weirs
Trapezoidal labyrinth weirs offer significant flow magnification for the available width of approach channel and that of the downstream chute. These types of weirs may find great utility and hence will have to be designed and provided for river linking projects. There are many factors such as head to crest height ratio, angle of side walls, vertical aspect ratio, apex width and approach and con...

Labyrinth seals are used in turbo-machinery for reducing the leakage of working fluid. The energy lost by the fluid passing through the gap between labyrinth seal and rotor causes the reduction in leakage rate. But the fluid in between the labyrinth seal and rotor induce various forces (radial and tangential forces). These forces can be represented by certain numbers of coefficients, such as st...

Labyrinth weirs are the economic structures to increase the weir output efficiency in limited widths, which can be seen in the plane f trapezoidal and triangular forms. These weirs with a hydraulic load and fixed width pass the more discharge in comparison to other type of weirs. In this study, labyrinth weirs trapezoidal in plane form were investigated. The experiments were performed on 27 lab...
