Performance Analysis Of Mono-bit Digital Instantaneous Frequency Measurement (Difm) Device
Authors
Abstract:
Instantaneous Frequency Measurement (IFM) devices are the essential parts of anyESM, ELINT, and RWR receiver. Analog IFMs have been used for several decades. However, thesedevices are bulky, complex and expensive. Nowadays, there is a great interest in developing a wideband, high dynamic range, and accurate Digital IFMs. One Digital IFM that has suitably reached allthese requirements is mono-bit zero-crossing IFM, made by some different producers at present. Inthis paper, the performance of mono-bit digital Instantaneous Frequency Measurement (IFM) deviceis analyzed. This analysis includes quantization error, thermal noise, clock jitter, comparator bias andalso “Pulse-on-Pulse” occurrence. The error limits due to all these factors are computed and analyzed, and a unified approach to the system design is presentedIn this paper, the performance of mono-bit digital Instantaneous frequency measurement (IFM) device is analyzed. Photonic Implementation of an Instantaneous Frequency Measurement
With the rapid and ongoing developments in telecommunication and electronic warfare technology, faster and more flexible systems are in demand. Wideband signal processing is thus needed to implement such systems. Microwave photonics has been introduced as a tool for achieving such ultra broadband signal processing. Instantaneous Frequency Measurement (IFM) receivers play an important role in el...
full textInstantaneous Frequency Analysis
This paper investigated the use of instantaneous frequency (IF) instead of power amplitude and power spectrum in side-channel analysis. By opposition to the constant frequency used in Fourier Transform, instantaneous frequency reflects local phase differences and allows detecting frequency variations. These variations reflect the processed binary data and are hence cryptanalytically useful. IF ...
full textDesign and Simulation of a Modified 32-bit ROM-based Direct Digital Frequency Synthesizer on FPGA
This paper presents a modified 32-bit ROM-based Direct Digital Frequency Synthesizer (DDFS). Maximum output frequency of the DDFS is limited by the structure of the accumulator used in the DDFS architecture. The hierarchical pipeline accumulator (HPA) presented in this paper has less propagation delay time rather than the conventional structures. Therefore, it results in both higher maximum ope...
full textPerformance of quadratic time-frequency distributions as instantaneous frequency estimators
General performance analysis of the shift covariant class of quadratic timefrequency distributions (TFDs) as instantaneous frequency (IF) estimators, for an arbitrary frequency-modulated (FM) signal, is presented. Expressions for the estimation bias and variance are derived. This class of distributions behaves as an unbiased estimator in the case of monocomponent signals with a linear IF. Howev...
full textA Digital Instantaneous Frequency Measurement Technique using High-Speed Analogue-to-Digital Converters and Field Programmable Gate Arrays
In modern information and sensor systems the timely estimation of the carrier frequency of received signals is of critical importance. This paper presents the Digital Instantaneous Frequency Measurement (DIFM) technique, which can measure the carrier frequency of a received waveform within a fraction of a microsecond. The resulting frequency range, resolution and accuracy of the system are scal...
full textPhotonic instantaneous frequency measurement of wideband microwave signals
We propose a photonic system for instantaneous frequency measurement (IFM) of wideband microwave signals with a tunable measurement range and resolution based on a polarization-maintaining fiber Bragg grating (PM-FBG). Firstly, in order to be insensitive to laser power fluctuation, we aim at generating two different frequency to amplitude characteristics so that we can normalize them to obtain ...
