Outcomes of Observe privacy in hospitalized patients: qualitative content analysis

Abstract: Introduction: In medical ethics, protecting the privacy of patients is part of patient's rights and the basis of patient care. Since the outcomes of respecting privacy as one of the dimensions of patient's rights are not clear, this study was performed to explore outcomes of respect for patient privacy of patients in hospital. Methods: The study was performed on 20 patients hospitalized in the internal and surgical wards of Tehran's Governmental hospitals in 2018 based on purposeful sampling and semi-structured interviews. The data was analyzed based on conventional content analysis method and using the MAXQDA 10 software. Results: Out of analysis of interviews with patients, 456 primary codes, 13 subcategories and 4 themes, which indicated the perception and nature of the privacy of hospitalized patients, were extracted. These themes included: Preservation and promotion of the dignity of the patient, compliance with non-compliance with privacy, health development and satisfaction. Conclusion: The results of this study have showed the i Outcomes of respect for patient privacy, so the health and medical team's awareness of these Outcomes can help them to be more respected by having greater sensitivity to patient privacy. This will lead to the provision of appropriate health care services and the satisfaction of the patient.
