ORE MINERALOGY AND POLYMETAMORPHOSED PNATURE OF THE ARCHEAN Zn-Cu-Fe MASSIVE SULFIDE DEPOSITS AT THE GARON LAKE MINE, MATAGAMI, QUEBEC, CANADA

Abstract:
Massive Zn-Cu-Fe sulfide deposits at the Garon Lake Mine occur in three sulfide lenses in a group of metamorphosed rhyolite crystal tuffs, metasediments and basalts. The major ore minerals are sphalerite, chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite and pyrite. Minor associated silicates are actinolite, tremolite, chlorite, albite and quartz. Rounded detrital pyrite, magnetite and chert grains and diagenetic pyrite are the only preseved premetamorphic features. Middle amphibolite facies regional metamorphism is marked by sulfide-silicate foliation, and syntectonic porphyroblasts of pyrite. After the intrusion of a granodiorite pluton, pyrite was fractured, and the other sulfides developed wedge-shaped twins. These minerals were subsequently involved in porphyroblasitic and polygonal granoblasticgrowth and annealing. Cordierite and anthophyllite developed fromchloritized wallrocks. During retrograde changes, some pyrrhotite wasconverted to pyrite, marcasite and magnetite. On the evidence of textures and mineralogy, the deposit is synsedimentary-diagenetic and of distal type

Mineralogy, Textures, and Relative Age Relationships of Massive Sulfide Ore in the West Shasta District, California
The Devonian massive sulfide orebodies of the West Shasta district in northern California are composed primarily of pyrite, with lesser amounts of other sulfide and gangue minerals. Examination of polished thin sections of more than 100 samples from the Mammoth, Shasta King, Early Bird, Balaklala, Keystone, and Iron Mountain mines suggests that mineralization may be divided into six paragenetic...
full textenvironmental effects of gol-e-gohar iron ore mine on groundwater of the area
gol-e-gohar iron ore mine of sirjan in southern part of iran is a large open pit that operates below the groundwater table and during mining operation, dewatering is required to prevent operation processes from flooding. current operation is going on by digging wells in or out of the pit and pumping to prevent flooding. as a result of the former dewatering operation a vast deep cone of depressi...
High and Low Temperature Gold Mineralizations in the Fe–Cu–Zn Sulfide Deposits of Corchia Ophiolite, Northern Italian Apennine
Gold has been found in the Cyprus-type volcanogenic massive sulfide ore (VMS) deposits of Corchia ophiolite (Parma province, Italy) in the Cantiere Donnini, Speranza and Pozzo mining sites. At Cantiere Donnini and Speranza, the mineralization occurs at the contact between pillow lava and sedimentary rocks. The Pozzo mineralization is hosted by a serpentinite. Concentrations of gold up to 3070 p...
full textThe mineralogy of arsenic in uranium mine tailings at the Rabbit Lake In-pit Facility, northern Saskatchewan, Canada
A detailed investigation of the mineralogy of As in the tailings of the Rabbit Lake uranium ore processing facility was conducted. The milling/ ore extraction process was sampled at three different locations to obtain information about when, where and under what condition secondary As phases form. These samples were compared with four samples of varying As content from the Rabbit Lake in-pit ta...

Qaleh-Zari is a Fe-oxide Cu-Ag-Au vein type deposit located 180 km south of Birjand, in eastern Iran. Host rocks are mainly Tertiary calc-alkaline to K-rich calc-alkaline with transition to shoshonitic andesite and andesitic basalts, but in the central part shale and sandstone of Jurassic age. Andesitic rocks from the western region of Qaleh-Zari were dated to 40.5 ± 2 Ma. Four trends of faults...
