Abstract:

Oral cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers and one of the 10 most common causes of death in the world. Epidemiological studies have shown that the prevalence of oral cancer varies from less than 0.1% to over 40% in different parts of the world. Unfortunately, the majority of oral cancers are diagnosed in advanced stages after becoming symptomatic. In comparison with malignant neoplasms at other body sites, oral carcinoma has a poor prognosis. The survival rate is dependent on diagnosis in early stages of disease, younger age, and change in risk-promoting lifestyle. In this paper written for general practitioners and Dentists, the epidemiology, clinical presentations, etiology, diagnostic aids and treatment of oral cancer are reviewed.

Downregulation of GSK3β by miR-544a to maintain self-renewal ability of lung caner stem cells

In order to study the influence and mechanism of miR-544a on the self-renewal ability of lung cancer stem cells, TargetScan was used to predict the target gene of miR-544a. A luciferase reporter system and western blotting were used to validate the target genes identified by TargetScan. 95C and 95D low and high metastatic human lung cancer cells were transfected with miR-544a, and quantitative ...

Dihydroartemisinin prevents breast cancer-induced osteolysis via inhibiting both breast caner cells and osteoclasts

Bone is the most common site of distant relapse in breast cancer, leading to severe complications which dramatically affect the patients' quality of life. It is believed that the crosstalk between metastatic breast cancer cells and osteoclasts is critical for breast cancer-induced osteolysis. In this study, the effects of dihydroartemisinin (DHA) on osteoclast formation, bone resorption, osteob...
