Abstract:

Pistacia vera ‘Badami-Riz-Zarand’ is used as rootstock in Iranian pistachio orchards due to the low sensitivity to the Phytophthora, resistance to salinity, and graft compatibility with commercial cultivars. In this study, the effects of culture media (MS and DKW) along with type and concentration of plant growth regulators were investigated on micropropagation of this rootstock. The highest growth of explants were obtained in ½ DKW culture media. Supplementing the culture media with antioxidants and activated charcoal has no significant effect on explants establishment. Most of the microshoots (5 to 6 microshoot in each explant) were induced on DKW+1 mg L-1 BA, DKW+2 mg L-1 BA + 0.5 mg L-1 GA, and also on ½  DKW culture media supplemented with 0.5 mg l-1 BA or combination of 1 or 2 mg L-1 BA + 0.5 mg L-1 GA, whereas, the length of the microshoots were higher in MS medium (3.84 to 5 cm). At rooting stage, half strength MS media supplemented with 2 mg L-1 IBA and 0.05 mg L-1 NAA showed the highest root length (4.48 cm), number of roots per microshoot (4.5), and rooting frequency (86.36%).

Effects of Humic Acid on Root and Shoot Growth and Leaf Nutrient Contents in Seedlings of Pistacia vera cv. Badami-Riz-Zarand

Humic acid is a biochemical constituent of humus and increases root biomass and shoot growth by improving absorption of nutrients. In order to study the effects of humic acid on root and shoot growth and leaf nutrient contents of pistachio seedlings, an experiment was conducted of completely randomized design with five treatments in three replications. In the first step seeds of Pistacia vera c...

an investigation on morphological diversity and of correlation seed characteristics with seedlings in a mass of pistachio seed (pistacia vera l. cv. badami-riz- zarand)

in order to study morphological variation within seeds and seedlings of a pistachio population of ‘badami-riz-e-zarand’, 20 quantitative traits were measured in sixty-seven nut and seedlings originated from them. results showed that there was positive and significant correlation between traits of nuts (seeds) and kernels, not between seedling height and crown diameter. according to measured par...

اثر پلی آمین‌ها بر افزایش ریشه‌زایی دانهال پسته رقم ’بادامی ریز‘ Pistacia vera cv Badami-e-Riz

Pistacia vera cv Badami-e-Riz is the most important and popular rootstock in Iran, which tolerate salinity soil and phytophthora fungi but its root is less affected. In addition this rootstock is susceptible to excessive B and water deficient. This rootstock has a taproot rooting system without any lateral root. So this study was conducted to evaluate the effects of various concentrations and a...

Concentration of Some Major Elements in the Kernel of pistacia atlantica desf., p. Vera Variety “sarakhs”, “badami zarand” and Cultivated Pistachio in Iran

Edible nuts have an increasing role in human diet. Pistachio is popular but less known kind of edible nut nevertheless it is rich in health benefiting nutrients, minerals, antioxidants and vitamins. This research focused on the concentration of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K) and calcium (Ca), all of which play a key role in the healthy human nutrition and lifestyle in the kernels o...

Determination and assesment of the sex chromosomes of male trees of pistachio (Pistacia vera L.) using in vitro culture

The chromosome number and karyotype analysis of male trees of Pistacia vera L. was investigated to determine the sex chromosomes. For karyological determination, root tips were obtained from in vitro derived shoots. Afterwards fifty plates of mitosis were used for the karyotyping, the five best metaphase plates were measured for karyotype analysis, karyogram and idiogram. The conclusions obtain...
