Abstract:

Labeo rohita, Gibelion catla, Cirrhinus mrigala, Ctenopharyngodon idella and Hypophthalmichthys molitrix were grown together for 365 days in triplicate ponds. Six iso-caloric feeds having varying protein levels i.e. 22, 24, 26, 28, 30 and 32% were prepared and supplemented to fish at 2% fish weight daily. Significantly, higher final average weight (793 ± 197 g) and total length gain (398 ± 40 mm) was recorded for Ctenopharyndodon idella. Net fish yield enhanced as the level of digestible protein (DP) in the supplementary diets increased and plateaued at 28% DP level, thereafter significant reduction (P

Improvement of Fertility Performance of Farahani Ewes Raised on Supplementary Feeding

This study deals with effects of supplementary feeding on fertility performance of Farahani ewes. The study was conducted using three local flocks in Arak city, Iran. Half ewes in each flock (50 ewes from each flock) were used as control group and fed according to traditional method without supplementary feed. The other half per flock was fed on supplementary feed throughout the experiment that...

Enhancing pasture-based dairying with supplementary feeds

New Zealand dairy farmers are increasingly using supplementary feeds in an attempt to overcome the quantitative and nutritional limitations of pasture. The use of rolled maize grain and pasture silage supplements was evaluated on a farmlet basis for two seasons. Supplementary feeding resulted in 88 and 82 g milksolids (MS)/kg dry matter (DM) at stocking rates of 3.24 and 4.48 Friesian cows/ha r...

Provocation of allergic response by supplementary feeds of cows' milk.

The postweaning IgE and IgG antiovalbumin antibody responses were greater in rat pups which had received a cows' milk-based supplementary feed than in litter mates which had not. This effect was antigen non-specific and might be similar to that of supplementary feeds in the development of atopy in human infants. The total IgE concentration was similar in the two groups. Supplementary feeds did ...

Refining low protein modular feeds for children on low protein tube feeds with organic acidaemias☆☆☆☆☆☆

Children with inherited metabolic disorders (IMD) who are dependent on tube feeding and require a protein restriction are commonly fed by 'modular tube feeds' consisting of several ingredients. A longitudinal, prospective two-phase study, conducted over 18 months assessed the long-term efficacy of a pre-measured protein-free composite feed. This was specifically designed to meet the non-protein...
