Optimal Adjustment of Three-Term Controller and Two-Term Compensator Performances in Hydro Power Systems for Load Frequency Control
Authors
Abstract:
An important issue with respect to the hydraulic power systems is the frequency stabilization. To design Load Frequency Control (LFC) with high efficiency, control parameters need to be adjusted so that the system frequency remains stable even under changeable conditions. Controlling the frequency and changes in the turbine time constant requires that three term control parameters of Proportional-Integral-Derivation (PID) and Transient Droop Compensators (TDC) in hydraulic power systems be adjusted separately, without considering the damping parameters simultaneously with the load working condition. Owing to the significance of the above issues in hydraulic power systems, this paper aimed to study the adjustment of parameters using the methods of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Desired Time Response Specification (DTRS), and Maximum Peak Resonance Specification (MPRS). The obtained results of simulation revealed that the method of Desired Time Response Specification (DTRS) is superior to the other methods under most conditions considering the frequency deviation and turbine output power.

Optimal transient droop compensator and PID tuning for load frequency control in hydro power systems
This paper presents an optimal method to tune the Proportional, Integral and Derivative (PID) controller for a hydraulic turbine coupled with the corresponding Transient Droop Compensator (TDC). The proposed methodology is based on the Desired Time Response Specification (DTRS) of the input guide vane servomotor that includes typical rate limiters and gain saturation in power plants. Therefore,...
full textApplying Optimal Sliding Mode Based Load-Frequency Control in Power Systems with Controllable Hydro Power Plants
In this paper an optimal load-frequency controller for a nonlinear power system is proposed. The mathematical model of the power system consists of one area with several power plants, a few concentrated loads and a transmission network, along with simplified models of the neighbouring areas. Firstly, a substitute linear model is derived, with its parameters being identified from the responses o...

This paper incorporates the techniques of design of an optimal neural network controller for load frequency control(LFC) to regulate the power output as well as the system frequency of a two-area power system by controlling the speed of the generator by means of controlling the steam flow. The controller is obtained using a combination of genetic algorithm, and neural network. The aim of the co...

15 صفحه اولA New Class of Decentralized Interaction Estimators for Load Frequency Control in Multi-Area Power Systems
Load Frequency Control (LFC) has received considerable attention during last decades. This paper proposes a new method for designing decentralized interaction estimators for interconnected large-scale systems and utilizes it to multi-area power systems. For each local area, a local estimator is designed to estimate the interactions of this area using only the local output measurements. In fact,...
