Optical and Thermal Properties of Mixed Alkali Phosphate Based Glasses

Authors

Abstract:

Glassy samples with a composition of 40P2O5–30V2O5–(30-x)Li2O– xK2O, 0<x<30 (mol %) were prepared by the conventional melt quenching technique in two forms of bulk and blown film. X-ray diffraction patterns corroborated the amorphous feature of the samples. Density of samples was investigated by using Archimedes principle. Based on absorption and reflection spectra, indirect allowed optical gaps, Urbach energies, refractive index and dielectric coefficients were calculated. Study of FTIR spectra revealed that all of the samples mainly contain metaphosphate and pyrophosphate units. Glass transition temperatures were also evaluated using DSC curves. Non-linear variation of many physical properties by gradually substitution of Li ions with K, confirmed the existence of mixed alkali effect in glassy system.<x </x

Structural Investigation, Physical and Optical Properties of Mixed Alkali Bismuth Borate Glasses

Lead free, eco-friendly bismuth borate glasses doped with alkali oxides of composition xLi2O+(30-x)Na2O+55B2O3+15Bi2O3 (x = 5,10,15,20,25) were prepared by melt quenching technique. Amorphous nature of glasses was confirmed by X-ray diffraction. Density measurements were carried out at room temperature by standard principle of Archimedes with Xylene as an immersion liquid. The non-linear ...

Effect of Boron Addition on the Thermal, Degradation, and Cytocompatibility Properties of Phosphate-Based Glasses

In this study eight different phosphate-based glass compositions were prepared by melt-quenching: four in the (P2O5)45-(CaO)16-(Na2O)15-x -(MgO)24-(B2O3) x system and four in the system (P2O5)50-(CaO)16-(Na2O)10-x -(MgO)24-(B2O3) x , where x = 0,1, 5 and 10 mol%. The effect of B2O3 addition on the thermal properties, density, molar volume, dissolution rates, and cytocompatibility were studied f...

Mechanical Properties of Alkali Borate Glasses

A GLASS is, formally, a solid that solidifies without a well-defined melting point— defined as a singular temperature at which there occurs a discontinuous change in a physical property, for example specific volume, during transition between a liquid state and its corresponding solid state—but instead exhibits a continuous change in that property over a range of temperature. Glasses tend to inh...

Structure and properties of strontium-doped phosphate-based glasses.

Owing to similarity in both ionic size and polarity, strontium (Sr2+) is known to behave in a comparable way to calcium (Ca2+), and its role in bone metabolism has been well documented as both anti-resorptive and bone forming. In this study, novel quaternary strontium-doped phosphate-based glasses, containing 1, 3 and 5 mol% SrO, were synthesized and characterized. (31)P magic angle spinning (M...
