Omentin-1 and chemerin's response to two different exercise models in overweight men

Authors

Abstract:

Background & Objectives: Omentin-1 and chemerin are adipocytes that are inversely associated with obesity. The purpose of the present study was to compare the effect of eight weeks of Submaximal and High Intensity Interval swimming practice on changes in serum levels of omentin-1 and chemerin in overweight young men. Materials & Methods: in this semi-experimental study among statistical population (110 students), 24 male students (22.5±1.67 years) purposefully with overweight (26.93±0.69) were divided into two sub-maximal swimming groups (60-67% of maximum heart rate) and High-intensity training swings (80-90% of maximal heart rate). The training protocol included 8 weeks and 3 days per week and each session with 45-60 minutes. It turned out before and 24 hours after exercise, blood 5cc was taken from the subjects. T-test was used to examine the differences between the groups and for inter-group differences, independent T-test with a significance level of p<0.05 was used. Results: Both submaximal swimming training (p=0.001) and high intensity interval (p=0.01) resulted in an increase in the levels of omentin-1 and the serum chemerin level in both submaximal swimming (p=0.005) and high intensity interval (p=0.02) increased significantly. These results were associated with weight loss, body mass index, waist-hip ratio, fat percentage and aerobic capacity increase in both groups (p<0.05). Conclusion: Therefore, it can be said that eight weeks of submaximal swimming and high intensity interval, lead to an increase in serum levels of omentin-1 and a decrease in chemerin and obesity-related factors.

The Effects of Two Different Types of Resistance Training Exercise plus Omega-3-6-9 Supplement on E-selectin and ICAM-1 Adhesion Molecules in Young Overweight Men

Background: Performing regular exercise training and taking inflammation-reducing supplements can be efficient in lowering atherosclerosis risk. The aim of this research was to assess the impact of resistance training (RT) conducted with or without Omega3-6-9 (Omega 3) supplementation in ascending pyramid (AP) or circuit (CR) on plasma levels of E-Selectin and ICAM-1 adhesive molecules in young...

Changes in Omentin-1 and some metabolic parameters following a period of aerobic exercise in middle-aged men

Introduction: Studies have reported hyperlipidemia and its complications, such as diabetes, along with aging. Omentin-1, on the other hand, is a protein that is secreted in visceral adipose tissue and can increase insulin sensitivity. This study aimed at evaluating the effect of aerobic exercise on resting levels of omentin-1, C-reactive protein, and some metabolic parameters in middle-aged men...

Hypotensive response after resistance exercise leading to failure and not to failure in trained men

Hypertension is epidemic disease which post-exercise hypotension (PEH) is useful strategies for hypertension. The aim of present study was to investigate the effects of resistance exercise leading to failure (REF) and resistance exercise not to failure (NREF) on PEH phenomenon in trained men. Eight trained men (age: 22.12±1.81 yr; height: 179±3.44 cm; weight: 73.82±4.29 kg;...

Feeding influences adipose tissue responses to exercise in overweight men.

Feeding profoundly affects metabolic responses to exercise in various tissues, but the effect of feeding status on human adipose tissue responses to exercise has never been studied. Ten healthy overweight men aged 26 ± 5 yr (mean ± SD) with a waist circumference of 105 ± 10 cm walked at 60% of maximum oxygen uptake under either fasted or fed conditions in a randomized, counterbalanced design. F...

Lipid oxidation in overweight men after exercise and food intake.

Fat oxidation (FO) is optimized during low- to moderate-intensity exercise in lean and obese subjects, whereas high-intensity exercise induces preferential FO during the recovery period. After food intake during the postexercise period, it is unknown if FO differs according to the intensity exercise in overweight subjects. Fat oxidation was thus evaluated in overweight men after low- and high-i...

Appetite regulation in overweight, sedentary men after different amounts of endurance exercise: a randomized controlled trial.

Weight loss induced by endurance exercise is often disappointing, possibly due to an increase in energy intake mediated through greater appetite. The aim of this study was to evaluate fasting, postprandial, and postexercise appetite regulation after an intervention prescribing two amounts of endurance exercise. Sixty-four sedentary, overweight, healthy young men were randomized to control (CON)...
