Novel Element For Bnadwidth Improvement Of The Reflectarray Antenna
Authors
Abstract:
In this paper novel reflectarray antenna elements are proposed using aperture-coupled dielectric resonator antenna structures. Using these new structures, wide phase range and wide frequency bandwidth (up to 28.5%) with parallel and linear phase curves are obtained. In each case, an array consisting of 289 elements was simulated using the finite integration technique (FIT). The arrays exhibit 3-dB gain-bandwidth and radiation efficiency up to 28% and 56%, respectively. The results were validated using transmission Line method (TLM).

Reflectarray for K/ka-band Terminal Antenna
Different satellite systems have been defined to provide broadband communications and internet access in remote geographical areas in Ka band (20-30 GHz) [1-2], being the up-link at 30 GHz and the down-link at 20 GHz. Costeffective antennas are required for fixed and portable terminals in Ka-band. Conventional reflectors are a preferred option to maintain reduced costs. However, the different r...
full textA Varactor Loaded Reflectarray Antenna
A new approach for beam steering in reflectarray applications is introduced in this paper. The progressive phase distribution is achieved by loading each microstrip patch element with a varactor diode on the radiating edges. The scattering characteristics of a single varactor loaded patch will be first presented. Then, as a test of the beam steering capability, a five elements linear reflectarr...
full textRing Shaped Compact Microstrip Reflectarray Antenna
Regularly shaped compact microstrip antennas have a small size but their gain is insufficient for most applications. Therefore, a ring-shaped compact microstrip reflectarray with microstrip antenna feed has been proposed. Different configurations, namely, 1 × 3, 3 × 1, plus-shaped and 3 × 3 have been analyzed. The 3 × 3 configuration yields an optimum gain of 10. 8 dBi and a narrow beamwidth of...
full textDesign and Efficient Analysis of Large Reflectarray Antenna
In recent years reflectarray antennas have received considerable attention due to their unique capabilities. However, due to their large size, analyzing the performance of these antennas using traditional full wave finite-difference and finite-element techniques requires considerable computational resources. In this paper, we present an efficient method to accurately analyze these class of ante...
full textCharacterization of Material Properties for Tunable Reflectarray Antenna Design
The emerging field of communications has increased the demand of electronically tunable reflectarray antennas. Substrate material properties play at1 important role in the design of reflectamy antennas. Variable permittivity materials such as liquid crystals and fenoelectrics have received great deal of attention due to their non-linear material properties. A comparative analysis behveen the pr...
full textEquivalent Circuit Modelling of Active Reflectarray Antenna
This paper presents equivalent circuit modeling of active planar reflectors which can be used for the detailed analysis and characterization of reflector performance in terms of lumped components. Equivalent circuit representation has been proposed for PIN diodes and liquid crystal based active planar reflectors designed within X-band frequency range. A very close agreement has been demonstrate...
