Neutrophil Gelatinase-associated Lipocalin Value in Patients\' Urine with Gram Positive Cocci Infection in the Urinary Tract
Authors
Abstract:
Background and Aims: This study aimed to investigate the amount of Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) in patients' urine with Gram-positive cocci infections Materials and Methods: The microbial culture was prepared from 100 urine samples and the results were recorded. The genus and bacterial were species identified and an antibiogram test was conducted to investigate their resistance. Human Lipocalin /NGAL enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay test was used. To analyze the data, Tukey and One Way ANOVA tests were used. Results: The highest mean of NGAL in the patient group was related to the men's category with 8.77, and the gender had a significant impact on the mean of NGAL. White blood cells has a significant impact on the mean of NGAL (p<0.05). The negative significance of the mean value also indicates the amount of NGAL being higher in the patient group. Conclusions: These data suggest a relationship between the amount of NGAL with white blood cells value in patients who present urinary infection of Gram-positive cocci. NGAL value plays an important role as an adjuvant and surrogate marker in early diagnosis of urinary tract infections and acute renal damage in line with microbiological investigations.

Urinary neutrophil-gelatinase associated lipocalin is a more prognostic biomarker to distinguish antenatal hydronephrosis in neonates
Background: Routine diagnostic methods of Vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) are invasive and can cause exposure to radiation and may increase risk of urinary tract infections. Therefore, introducing reliable, non invasive methods might be more interested in pediatric nephrology. The objective of this perspective case control study was to evaluate the prognostic value of urinary neutrophil-gelatinase ...
full textThe different molecular forms of urine neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin present in dogs with urinary diseases
BACKGROUND Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) is a useful biomarker for the early prediction of renal diseases. NGAL may exist as monomer, dimer and/or NGAL/MMP-9 complex forms in humans. In this study, the existence of various forms of NGAL in urine (uNGAL) was determined and whether these forms are related to the different urinary diseases found in dogs is further discussed. ...
full textUrinary Excretion of Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin in Diabetic Rats
UNLABELLED Recent studies suggest that tubular damage precedes glomerular damage in the progression of diabetic nephropathy. Therefore, we evaluated oxidative stress and urinary excretion of tubular proteins as markers of tubular dysfunction. METHODS Diabetes was induced in rats by streptozotocin administration (50 mg/kg). Oxidative stress was assessed by measuring the activity of catalase (C...
full textPredictive Values of Urinary Interleukin 18 and Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin for Delayed Graft Function Diagnosis in Kidney Transplantation
Background: Delayed graft function is a main complication after deceased donor kidney transplantation that adversely affects graft outcome. Difficulties in prediction and early detection of delayed graft function have hindered the ability to perform proper therapeutic interventions. We investigated whether measuring urinary interleukin 18 and neutrophi...
full textEvaluation of the Optimal Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin Value as a Screening Biomarker for Urinary Tract Infections in Children
BACKGROUND Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) is a promising biomarker in the detection of kidney injury. Early diagnosis of urinary tract infection (UTI), one of the most common infections in children, is important in order to avert long-term consequences. We assessed whether serum NGAL (sNGAL) or urine NGAL (uNGAL) would be reliable markers of UTI and evaluated the appropriate ...
full textDiagnostic accuracy of urinary neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin in patients with septic acute kidney injury
BACKGROUND Sepsis is the most common cause of acute kidney injury (AKI). Very few studies have investigated the predictive properties of urinary neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (uNGAL) as a marker of AKI in septic patients. The aim of this study is to examine uNGAL in septic patients with and without AKI and to evaluate its predictive value. METHODS We prospectively studied 155 pat...
