Monitoring of Cheragh-veis Dam During Construction Using Instrumentation Data and Investigation of dam behavior during impounding

Authors

Abstract:

One of the most important challenges in development projects beside designing and performing them is to control immunity and stability of the several parts during different stages of construction, impoundment, and operation.  The   main purpose of instrumentation in dams is to evaluate operation and reaction of these structures under different load conditions, developing a better understanding of their behaviors, and checking on the design concepts. Geotechnical engineers must work with natural geologic materials, while the properties of geologic materials are generally diverse, unpredictable or even unknown.  However, data derived from instrumentation which is usually being done via back analysis, would help them to estimate design parameters more accurately.  In this research, the datasets obtained from instrumentation on the Cheragh veis Dam (62meter height, 10meter crest width and274 meter crest length) constructed in Iran, will be monitored. Out of raw original data, valid ones were selected based on compatibility terms and engineering judgment.  Eventually, reliable ones were compared with the results of back analysis applying finite element model. Based on the alleged comparison, having done some iterative analysis, modified properties of materials would be obtained.

Environmental risk assessment of a dam during construction phase

The present study was conducted to assess the possible risks induced by construction of Gavi Dam in Ilam Province; western part of Iran, using MIKE-11 model and technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution. For this purpose, vulnerable zone of the dam site against the flooding risk of Gavi River was calculated for different return periods. The flooding zones were stimulated...

Dam Safety During Design, Construction and Operation

Introduction In the foreword to the Malaysian Guidelines for Operation, Maintenance and Surveillance of Dams (Malaysian Inter-Departmental Committee on Dam Safety 1989), it is stated “The expanding inventory of dams has brought into focus the subject of dam safety”. At the time of the guideline publication, there had been a considerable increase in the inventory of dams with those constructed d...

Behaviour Comparison of the Taleqan Dam Using Instrumentation Data and Radar Interferometry

Dams are one of the most important fundamental structures all around the world. Given the high volume of water in the dams, they are susceptible to damage and destruction, leading to large financial losses and fatality. Therefore, by installation of instrumentation data in the dam’s body and execution of terrestrial surveying network, stability and safety of dams can be monitored. However, occa...
