Abstract:

Essential amino acids such as methionine have been increasingly included into diets of lambs. However, few studies have determined the effects of methionine supplementation in the general performance and economic returns of lamb production. To address this question, 21weaned male Rahmani lambs were allotted to 3 dietary treatments: control diet (C), control diet plus 3.30 g of methionine/kg concentrate feed mixture (T1), and control diet plus 3.63 g of methionine/kg concentrate feed mixture (T2). T1-fed lambs showed significantly higher (P

Effect of Diet Physical Form on Performance and Diet Digestibility in Finishing Fat-Tailed Lambs

This study was conducted in two experiments to evaluate the dietary physical form on dry matter intake (DMI), performance, carcass traits and nutrient digestibility from Kalkuhy (an Iranian fat–tailed breed) male lambs. Initial lamb body weight (BW) average was, 32 .81 ± 2 kg, and 110 ± 10 days of age. Three treatments (diet physical form) included T1: total mixture diet (TMR) mixed diet (MD), ...

Long-term consumption of a methionine-supplemented diet increases iron and lipid peroxide levels in rat liver.

Methionine is a protective factor against various types of liver damage, but excessive dietary methionine is hepatotoxic. Because the mechanisms of L-methionine-related hepatotoxicity are poorly understood, the effect of long-term excessive L-methionine intake on the metabolism of iron and antioxidants was studied in rat liver to determine whether oxidative stress is involved. Wistar male rats ...
