Mechanical Application of Lubricated Nano Porous Anodized Aluminium
Authors
Abstract:
Today a major environmental problem is global warming that is mainly caused due to exhaust and emission of gases. The only way to reduce their ill-effect is by improvement in fuel efficiency of I.C. engines, where most of the power is lost to overcome the friction. In this work, nanoporous anodized layer is formed on an aluminium substrate surface by anodization. Anodization was carried out at different parameters such as voltage, temperature, time to find out optimum conditions to obtain well ordered nanoporous layer. Characreization of anodized porous layer was done by FE-SEM and EDS. After synthesis, anodized layer was treated with anionic surfactant and dipped in lubricant (SAE-15) for tribological applications. Tribology testing was performed on lubricated anodized surface which shows better results in wear and friction as compared to bare substrate. This technique has a lot of potential in improving fuel consumption of I.C. engines, thus may go a long way towards our goal to save environment.

Creep of Lubricated Layered Nano-Porous Solids and Application To Cementitious Materials
A variety of geomaterials, such as cementitious or clay-based materials, has on the nano-scale a layered microstructure that can contain fluid in its nano-porous space. The creep of such nano-scale basic units is what causes the macroscopic creep. Here, one nano-pore whose walls consist of two parallel infinite solid layers interacting through Lennard-Jones potential is studied. The authors eva...

This study was carried out to synthesize 1D inorganic nanostructure using an electrochemical method without any template and additives. Copper foils were anodized in a KOH bath and were tested for their antibacterial performance. After anodizing, the obtained samples were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) to determine the corresponding morphology an...
full textApplication of the method of multiple scales for nonlinear vibration analysis of mechanical systems with dry and lubricated clearance joints
In this study, the method of multiple scales is used to perform a nonlinear vibration analysis of a mechanical system in two cases; with dry and lubricated clearance joints. In the dry contact case, the Lankarani-Nikravesh model is used to represent the contact force between the joined bodies. The surface elasticity is modeled as a nonlinear spring-damper element. Primary resonance is discussed...
full textIncreased Osteoblast Adhesion on Nano-rough Anodized Titanium and CoCrMo
One approach to improve biological properties of current titanium and CoCrMo implant is to mimic the nanostructures of bone. Surface modification via anodization is popular to create such nanometer surface features on these metallic implants. The objective of the present study was to anodize titanium and CoCrMo and then determine osteoblast adhesion on such materials. Hydrofluoric acid was used...
full textTEM characterisation of near surface deformation resulting from lubricated sliding wear of aluminium alloy and composites
Aluminium alloy composites have been extensively investigated for use in tribo-contact applications, however little detailed literature exists on the sub-surface microstructural evolution as a result of lubricated sliding wear. In this study two un-reinforced alloys (2124 & 5056) and identical alloy composites, reinforced with 15vol.% MoSi2 intermetallic particles were produced by a powder meta...
full textModelling lubricated revolute joints in multibody mechanical systems
This work deals with the modelling of lubricated revolute joints in multibody mechanical systems. In most machines and mechanisms, the joints are designed to operate with some lubricant fluid. The high pressures generated in the lubricant fluid act to keep the journal and the bearing apart. Moreover, the thin film formed by lubricant reduces friction and wear, provides load capacity and adds da...
