Measuring Productivity Changes of Hospitals in Tehran: The Fuzzy Malmquist Productivity Index
Authors
Abstract:
Background and Objectives: The purpose of this paper is to suggest a novel method to measure the productivity changes of hospitals over time in the presence of linguistic variables along with fuzzy data. Methods: Applying the popular and applicable approaches including data envelopment analysis (DEA), Malmquist productivity index (MPI) and possibilistic programming, the fuzzy Malmquist productivity index (FMPI) is proposed. Results: In this study, the proposed fuzzy MPI is implemented for measuring productivity changes of 10 hospitals in Tehran. Notably, the input variables include the number of beds, the number of doctors, equipment & infrastructures and hospital location. Also, the output variables include the number of inpatient days, the number of outpatient, and overall patient satisfaction. According to the obtained results, the productivity of 5 hospitals has increased in 2014 in comparison to 2013. Conclusions: The obtained results have shown the capability of the proposed index to calculate the changes in productivity of hospitals in the presence of ambiguity in data.

The interval Malmquist productivity index in DEA
One of the most popular approaches to measuring productivity changes is based on using Malmquist productivity indexes. In this paper we propose a method for obtaining interval Malmquist productivity index (IMPI). The classical DEA models have been before used for measuring the Malmquist productivity index. The current article extends DEA models for measuring the interval Malmquist productivity ...
full textForecasting the Malmquist Productivity Index
The Malmquist Productivity Index (MPI) suggests a convenient way of measuring the productivity change of a given unit between two consequent time periods. Until now, only a static approach for analyzing the MPI was available in the literature. However, this hides a potentially valuable information given by the evolution of productivity over time. In this paper, we introduce a dynamic procedure ...
full textMeasuring the Productivity of Serbian Banks Using Malmquist Index
This paper evaluates the scale of productivity change of the Bank of Serbia over the period 20072010. In this research the emphasis is put on measuring the productivity based on information from the financial statements using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method and Malmquist index to estimate the individual bank efficiency and productivity changes within this period. The Malmquist productivi...
full textEstimating Stochastic Malmquist Productivity Index
Nowadays the extent of productivity of Decision Making Units (DMUs) in future has a significant importance. One of the different types of calculating profitability of units is Malmq uist productivity index. All approaches presented so far calculate this index in present or past time using deterministic data. In this paper, a new approach based on DEA is presented for estimating Malmquist index ...
full textA profit Malmquist productivity index
In some situations the producers desire to maximize total profit of Decision Making Units (DMUs) while the inputs and outputs prices of DMUs change from one time period to another. In this paper, the researchers develop productivity index when producers are going to maximize total profit when the price of inputs and outputs are known. The proposed method uses all price information about inputs a...
full textInterval Malmquist Productivity Index in DEA
Data envelopment analysis is a method for evaluating the relative efficiency of a collection of decision making units. The DEA classic models calculate each unit’s efficiency in the best condition, meaning that finds a weight that the DMU is at its maximum efficiency. In this paper, utilizing the directional distance function model in the presence of undesirable outputs, the efficiency of each ...
