Measurement of the Earth’s Magnetic Field Vector based on zero field finding algorithm using optically pumped magnetometers
Authors
Abstract:
Atomic magnetometers have found widespread applications in precise measurement of the Earth’s magnetic field due to their high sensitivity. In these measurements, various methods have been utilized to compensate the Earth’s magnetic field in an unshielded environment. In this paper, we have proposed a method based on finding the minimum resonance frequency (corresponding to minimum magnetic field) by producing the opposite magnetic field through three pairs of Helmholtz coils. Using this method, the exact value of the Earth’s magnetic field vector is obtained as 35.132 μT with an accuracy of 2 nT.

Magnetic field imaging with microfabricated optically-pumped magnetometers.
A multichannel imaging system is presented, consisting of 25 microfabricated optically-pumped magnetometers. The sensor probes have a footprint of less than 1 cm2 and a sensitive volume of 1.5 mm × 1.5 mm × 1.5 mm and connect to a control unit through optical fibers of length 5 m. Operating at very low ambient magnetic fields, the sensor array has an average magnetic sensitivity of 2...

Optically-pumped magnetometers (OPMs) have seen rapid progress over the last decade in terms of performance and technology development. As highly sensitive room-temperature magnetometers they present several advantages over superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) sensors, such as the possibility for conformal geometries and low-maintenance systems. We review the state of the art and...

20 Optically pumped atomic magnetometers measure the Larmor frequency νL at which the bulk magnetization of a spin-polarized alkali metal vapour in a glass cell precesses around the field of interest B0. !e precession frequency is related to the modulus of the magnetic field by νL=(γ/2π)|B0|, where γ/2π≈3.5Hz/nT for 133Cs, so that the magnetic field measurement consists in a frequency measureme...
full textZero Magnetic Field Environment for EDM Measurement
Neutron electric dipole moment measurement (EDM) requires precise control of the electric and magnetic field in the test cell. External magnetic field should be shielded out completely. As the experiment will be conducted in cryogenic environment (~ 4K), conventional μ-metal shield cannot work in low temperature. Shielding property of another magnetic material, Metglas, was study in this projec...
