Maternal Serum and Cervicovaginal IL-6 in Patients with Symptoms of Preterm Labor
Authors
Abstract:
Background: Preterm birth is a common problem in obstetrics. Objective: To measure maternal serum interlukin-6 in mothers with preterm uterine contractions and compare it with cervicovaginal interlukin-6 in the same women. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we measured interlukin-6 in the sera and cervicovaginal fluids of 86 women with preterm uterine contractions. All participants had an intact membrane. Interlukin-6 was measured by using ELISA method. Statistical analysis was done using U-Mann Whitney, Chi-Square and Kendall’s tests. Results: The mean and median (Quartile25, Quartile75) of interlukin-6 in cervicovaginal fluid was higher than maternal serum interlukin-6. There was a statically significant difference in the median of interlukin-6 in sera and cervicovaginal fluid (P

full textElevated Serum Levels of IL-6 and TNF-α in Patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Introduction: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is accompanied by abdominal pain and intestinal discomforts. A line of evidence shows that the immune system plays important roles in the pathogenesis of the disease. Two main cytokines directing the immune system are IL-6 and TNF-α which may play a role in the immunopathogenesis of this disease. The present study aimed at investigating the serum lev...
full textClinical Significance of Serum TNF-a and IL-6 Levels in Patients with Metabolic Syndrome
Background: Several components of metabolic syndrome (MetS) facilitate its diagnosis, including abdominal obesity, hyperlipidemia, high blood pressure, and insulin resistance. The production of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) and interleukin 6 (IL-6) seem to be associated with MetS components. The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation between the serum levels...
full textThe Relationship Between Maternal Serum Levels of Calcium, Phosphorus and Magnesium with Preterm Labor: A Case-Control Study
Introduction: Preterm delivery is one of the essential midwifery problems, which causes a large proportion of infant mortality even in advanced societies. Despite advances in pregnancy care, the frequency of preterm delivery has not decreased. This study aimed to determine the relationship between serum calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium level with preterm labor in pregnant women. Methods: In ...
