Lectin Histochemical Study of GalNac and GlcNac Containing Glycoconjugates in Colon Adenocarcinoma
Authors
Abstract:
Introduction: Alteration of terminal sugars of Glycoconjugates is one of the important aspects of neoplasia. The aim of the present study was to identify GalNac and GlcNac containing glycoconjugates in different grades of neoplastic cells in adenocarcinoma of colon. Methods: Histological sections prepared from paraffin blocks belong to 30 patient of colon adenocarcinoma obtained from Khatam-Al-Anbia hospital in Zahedan, Iran and stained by H-E, PAS, WGA and SBA/Alcian blue lectins. Histologic slides were graded histochemically (0-3) according to staining intensity, and collected data were analyzed by SPSS software. Results: Statistical analysis showed only a significant difference in staining intensity for SBA lectin P<0.001) . Furthermore with increasing the histopathological grades, the frequency of positivity of neoplastic cells for GalNac and GluNac was also increased. Conclusion: The pattern of staining of neoplastic cells to WGA and SBA lectins were changed with increasing of histopathological grades.

Umbilical cord can be considered as a source of stem cells with a wide differentiates capacity. It also supplies the embryos with blood contains oxygen and vital nutritional elements and may change by some abnormalities during embryo development. The study of different aspects of umbilical cord biology is critical for understanding of pathology and the way of its application in a stem cell ther...
full textThe oligosaccharidic content of the glycoconjugates of the prepubertal descended and undescended testis: lectin histochemical study.
The saccharidic content of the glycoconjugates has been studied in the descended the undescended testes of a 8 years old boy. For this purpose, a battery of seven HRP-conjugated lectins (SBA, DBA,PNA,WGA,UEAI, LTA and ConA) was used. D-galactose-N-acetyl-D-galactosamine and alpha-L-fucose sugar residues, which were present in the cytoplasm of the Sertoli cells of the normally positioned prepube...
full textMucinous adenocarcinoma of the colon - a histochemical study.
Colorectal carcinoma is a major cause of cancer associated with a high rate of morbidity and mortality in the western world. One of the pathologic features considered to be important for prognostic is mucin production. Many authors confirmed that colon carcinomas with high mucin content tend to re-occur locally and carry a poor prognosis. For histochemical evaluation of mucin content, we invest...

Objective(s) The aim of this study was to investigate glycoconjugates distribution patterns as well as their changes during the course of pituitary portal vasculogenesis and angiogenesis. Materials and Methods Formalin fixed paraffin sections of 10 to 20 days of Sprague Dawly rat fetuses were processed for histochemical studies using four different horseradish peroxidase (HRP) conjugated lec...

full textThe oligosaccharidic component of the glycoconjugates in lichen planus, granuloma annulare, seborrheic keratosis and plamoplantar keratoderma: lectin histochemical study.
It is well known that cell surface glycoconjugates play an important role in cell proliferation, adhesion and differentiation. The aim of this investigation was to define the changes of the glycoconjugate saccharidic moieties in the epidermis and derma of patients affected by several skin pathologies such as seborrheic keratosis, lichen planus, granuloma annulare and palmoplantaris keratoderma....
