Abstract:

In this paper, Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding (VARTM) method was simulated by analytical solution. Then the effect of parameters like fiber density, distribution of layer thickness, perform layer thickness, resin viscosity was investigated theoretically. Obtained results show that by selecting optimum distribution layer thickness, increasing fiber volume fraction, reducing viscosity of resin, maximum speed could be achieved in the process in such a way by optimizing these parameters the production speed will be improved.

Modeling of Resin Transfer Molding

Resin Transfer Molding (RTM), as a method for the manufacture of advanced ber reinforced composite materials, is attractive because it ooers the possibility of lower manufacturing costs and more complex shapes than traditional methods. A major issue in this new manufacturing process is the elimination of void spaces in the resin ll operation, so that products with high quality are manufactured....

Matrix Characterization and Development for the Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding Process

The curing kinetics and viscosity of an epoxy resin system, SI-ZG-5A, have been characterized for application in the vacuum assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM) process. Impregnation of a typical carbon fiber perform provided the test bed for the characterization. Process simulations were carried out using the process model, COMPRO [8], to examine heat transfer and curing kinetics for a full...

Direct Adaptive Control of Resin Transfer Molding

Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) is a manufacturing process that involves injection of liquid resin into a closed mold cavity containing preset fiber mats and a subsequent curing stage. Mold filling is a crucial stage for quality part productions. In order to automate production and minimize the formation of defects, control of mold filling is needed. In this paper, direct adaptive control strategy...
