Interaction Between Precipitation and Dynamic Recrystallization in HSLA-100 Microalloyed Steel
Authors
Abstract:
Strain induced precipitation in HSLA-100 steel was investigated by conducting hotcompression and relaxation tests at temperature range of 850°C to 1100°C and strain rate of 0.001s-1 to 1s-1. The absence of dynamic recrystallization at temperatures below 1000°C was attributedto the influence of dynamic precipitation. The stress relaxation tests showed that strain inducedprecipitation is possible over a wide range of temperatures from 850°C to 1050°C. The startingand finishing times of precipitation were sensitive to temperature than strain rate. At temperaturerange of 950-1000°C and strain rate of 0.1s-1 the lowest times for precipitation were observed. Thecombination of precipitation-time-temperature and recrystallization-time temperature diagramsshowed that at high temperatures and low strain rates, precipitation precedes dynamicrecrystallization, whereas at the opposite condition, dynamic recrystallization goes in advance. Thestarting and finishing times for dynamic precipitation were approximated about 40 percent lowerthat those for strain induced precipitation.

full textIsothermal Recrystallization Behavior of Cold-deformed Martensite in an Ultra-low-carbon Microalloyed Steel
One of the most promising ways to produce a grain-refined microstructure in some steel materials is the thermomechanical processing route of subcritical recrystallization annealing of a cold-deformed martensite structure. In the present study, the microstructural evolutions and the associated recrystallization kinetics under various subcritical annealing heat treatment conditions are explored i...
full textShear and tensile plastic behavior of austenitic steel TRIP-120 compared with martensitic steel HSLA-100
Themechanical performanceofTRIP-120, a novel transformation induced plasticity steel alloy, is evaluated for different loading cases and strain rates. The performance is compared with HSLA-100, a lowalloy steel developed by the United States Navy and currently used in naval hulls. The response of these materials under uniaxial tension and shear was investigated to the point of fracture at isoth...
full textEquilibrium Model of Precipitation in Microalloyed Steels
The formation of precipitates during thermal processing of microalloyed steels greatly influences their mechanical properties. Precipitation behavior varies with steel composition and temperature history and can lead to beneficial grain refinement or detrimental transverse surface cracks. This work presents an efficient computational model of equilibrium precipitation of oxides, sulfides, nitri...
full textEstimation of Maximum Inclusion Size and Fatigue Limit in HSLA-100 Steel
The objective of the current study is to determine the fatigue limit of a clean and high-performance material named as HSLA-100 steel and to compare the obtained fatigue limit with that of theoretically predicted fatigue limit by statistics of extreme value (SEV) method. Also, the size of inclusions located at the site of fatigue crack nucleation on the fracture surface of the fatigue test spec...
