Insights into the autistic disorder and potential therapeutic approaches

Abstract:
Autism and autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) such as Rett syndrome and Asperger syndromeare enigmatic and complex neurodevelopmental disorders, thought to have originated inparticular interactions of genetic and environmental factors. Despite the extensive research, exact mechanism of pathogenesis is not still completely understood. ASDs are characterizedby deficits and abnormalities in communication and social interactions, besides repetitive andstereotypic verbal/nonverbal behaviors. There are no effective drugs for the treatment of theseconditions and as the frequency of ASDs in the children has risen over the last decade, furtherstudies will be needed to better address the treatment. In this brief review we discuss the etiologyof autism and possible novel approaches for its management in the near future

Animal models of systemic sclerosis: insights into systemic sclerosis pathogenesis and potential therapeutic approaches.
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Animal models have been extremely valuable in contributing to a better understanding of the pathogenesis of systemic sclerosis. Discussed here are recent studies that have examined the molecular pathways and potential therapeutic approaches for systemic sclerosis using animal models. RECENT FINDINGS Reported evidence further indicates that the immune system plays a role in m...
full textMultiple Myeloma: New Insights and Therapeutic Approaches.
This review discusses the evolution of novel diagnostic and treatment strategies for multiple myeloma based upon increased understanding of basic disease pathogenesis. Although myeloma has remained an incurable illness to date, these new developments will derive treatments to improve outcome and achieve eventual cure. In Section I, Dr. Kyle reviews the results of current therapy for multiple my...
full textMedication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw: New Insights into Molecular Mechanisms and Cellular Therapeutic Approaches
In recent years, medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) became an arising disease due to the important antiresorptive drug prescriptions to treat oncologic and osteoporotic patients, as well as the use of new antiangiogenic drugs such as VEGF antagonist. So far, MRONJ physiopathogenesis still remains unclear. Aiming to better understand MRONJ physiopathology, the first objective of...
full textSensory Integration and Autistic Spectrum Disorder
The theory and practice of sensory integration were developed in the late 1960s by an occupational therapist and psychologist, Dr. A. Jean Ayres [1]. Also, known as sensory processing, it is “the neurological process that organizes sensation from one’s own body and from the environment and makes it possible to use the body effectively within the environment” [1].

Silymarin is the active ingredient of milk thistle. Several studies proved that silymarin has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties. Silymarin is widely used for treatment of hepatic and biliary disorders, renal toxicity and is recently used as adjuvant agent for treatment of cancer.
