In vitro effects of kraft liquor on testicular cells and sperm motility of Caspian kutum (Rutilus frisii kutum)
Authors
Abstract:
To identify Kraft liquor effects on spermatogenesis and sperm motility of Caspian kutums by using in vitro culture, the fish testis was incubated with 5, 10 and 15 % (V/V) of liquor for 3 and 6 days. The percentage of motile spermatozoa and its total duration were also measured. Adverse effects on testicular cells were more apparent with the increase of liquor concentrations. The mean size of spermatogonia and spermatocytes decreased significantly (p<0.001) in dose-dependent manner compared to controls. With the increase of concentration, the number of spermatocytes and spermatids decreased (p<0.001) but the number of spermatogonia, increased (p< 0.05). The increase of liquor concentration showed a significantly decrease of percentage of motile spermatozoa and total duration of spermatozoa (p0.05). This study showed the detrimental effects of low levels of kraft liquor on testicular development and sperm quality in the kutums.

full textDetermination of Nitrate and Nitrite Residues in Smoked Caspian Kutum, Rutilus frisii kutum and Mullet, Liza auratus in the North of Iran
High dietary nitrate and nitrite intake may increase the risk of gastro-intestinal cancers due to the In vivo formation of carcinogenic chemicals known as N-nitroso compounds. In this study nitrate and nitrite residues in smoked Caspian kutum, Rutilus frisii kutum and mullet, liza auratus in the local markets (considered as batch no. 1, 2 and 3) of north of Iran were determined using Spectropho...

This study investigated the growth rate, proximate composition, and fatty acid profile in juvenile of kutum Rutilus frisii kutum in different dark-light cycles. Fish were stocked randomly in eighteen 2000-L fiberglass tanks and received six photoperiod regimes: natural photoperiod, 24L (light):0D (day), 16L:8D, 12L:12D, 8L:16D and 0L:24D. Application of continuous dark (0L:24D) and an intermedi...
full textHistopathological effects and toxicity of atrazine herbicide in Caspian Kutum, Rutilus frisii kutum, fry
This study aimed to investigate the toxic effects of atrazine herbicide on the fry of Caspian Kutum (Rutilus frisii kutum, Kamensky, 1901). First the 96-h LC50 of the fry were exposed to atrazine at the concentration of 24.95 ppm was determined. Then the toxicity of this herbicide on Caspian kutum fry exposed to the concentration of 12.47ppm (1/2 LC50), for four days was measured and compared w...
