Illegal Silver pomfret, Pampus argenteus (Euphrasen, 1788), fishing by Fixed gill-nets in Qeshm Island waters (Hormozgan province)

Authors

Abstract:

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the illegal Silver pomfret catch by fixed gill-nets in Hormozgan inshore waters (Qeshm Island). Sampling was performed in Bandar Laft estuaries through three fishing boats between April to July 2015. The fishing gears were the nylon mono-filament fixed gill-net with 6.5 cm mesh size (bar), 200 m length and 8-10 m height. The non-parametric bootstrap method was utilized to estimate the average catch rate (± Confidence interval) of commercial fish caught. After forty-eight landings, the catch composition included 14 teleost fish species and 1 invertebrate. The catch composition by weight also included 59.57 % target species (P. argenteus) and 40.43 % incidental catch. For incidental fish caught, M. cephalus and P. sextarius with 39.58 % and 6.83 % had highest and lowest occurrence and L. johnii with 4.57 % had highest weight percentage. The catch rate (kg.boat-1.day-1) of P. argenteus was calculated between 9.125 and 16.941. Using Monte Carlo procedure, annual illegal Silver pomfret catch was estimated between 265.690 to 303.701 tonnes (α=0.05).

A histological study of ovarian development and spawning peak of Silver pomfret (Pampus argenteus, Euphrasen, 1788) in the Persian Gulf (Qeshm coastalwaters)

In this study, reproduction cycle of Silver pomfret (Pampus argenteus, Euphrasen, 1788) was examined in the coastal waters of the Persian Gulf waters (Qeshm Island). Sampling was done using gill and fixed net, in 5-10 m depth, during April 2011 to March 2012. At the end of sampling period, 474 fish were collected (292 male and 182 female). Male to female ratio was increased in month of peak spa...

Population Genetic Structure of Silver Pomfret (Pampus argenteus) in Persian Gulf and Oman Sea, Inferred from 11 Microsatellite Loci

Genetic diversity was assayed at 11 microsatellite loci of silver pomfret captured at 5 sites in 2010 to detect population genetic structure of Pampus argenteus, a commercial important species in Persian Gulf and Oman Sea. Results showed 131 alleles over all loci examined. Mean observed and expected heterozygosities ranged from 0.405 to 0.880 respectively. Pairwise F (0.040) and R (0.129) value...

Growth kinetics, protease activity and histophagous capability of Uronema sp. infesting cultured silver pomfret Pampus argenteus in Kuwait.

Laboratory-produced and -reared sub-adults of silver pomfret (zobaidy) Pampus argenteus affected by severe scuticociliatosis during April and May 2005 were investigated and the causative was a scuticociliate, presumptively identified as Uronema sp. The parasite was capable of producing highly necrotic skin lesions. Mortalities started with a rise in the seawater temperature from 20 to 21.5 degr...

Mitochondrial ATPase 6/8 genes to infer the population genetic structure of silver pomfret fish Pampus argenteus along the Indian waters.

Silver pomfret, Pampus argenteus is an economically important seafood species. The fishery resource of pomfret in Indian waters shows a dwindling catch since the last few years and the pomfrets caught were mostly undersized which calls for immediate attempts for management of resources. An accurate definition of population structure is important for management of this species. The genetic stock...
