Identification of some endophytic fungi of common yew trees (Taxus baccata) in Iran
Authors
Abstract:
In order to identify some endophytic fungi in common yew trees, healthy plant samples were investigated. In this study, 10 fungal species including Absidia spinosa, Aureobasidium pullulans, Lecanicillium lecanii, Nemania serpens, Pseudodictyosporium elegans, Leucostoma persoonii, Epicoccum nigrum, Stachybotrys chartarum, Gibberella tricincta and Gibberella baccata were identified as endophytic fungi of native common yew trees in Iran. Two taxa including P. elegans and N. serpens are being reported as new for the Iranian mycobiota. Also, all identified species exceptG. baccata, are reported for the first time as endophytic fungi of common yew trees (Taxus baccata) in the world.

In the present study, five species of Cladosporium including C. perangustum, C. basi-inflatum, C. cladosporioides, C. herbarum and C. subtilissimum, and three species assigned to other fungal genera including Truncatella angustata, Alternaria atra and Nigrospora oryzea are reported as endophytic fungi of common yew (Taxus baccata L.), native to Iran. Out of these, C. perangustum, C. basi-inflat...
full textIntroduction of some endophytic fungi of sour cherry trees (Prunus cerasus) in Iran
Endophytic fungi are beneficial fungi to their host plants and help them to endure biotic and abiotic stresses with different methods. In order to identify some endophytic fungi of sour cherry trees, healthy plant samples including twigs and leaves were collected from several provinces of Iran. A total number of 176 isolates were obtained and studied taxonomically. Based on morphological featur...

The yew tree (Taxus baccata) is an evergreen conifer that is widespread over central and southern Europe. The toxic effects of this conifer and its leaves have been known since ancient times. The seeds are generally responsible for accidental intoxications in childhood, whereas the bark and the leaves are mainly used for homicidal or suicidal attempts. We investigated the metabolic pattern of t...

Taxus baccata L. is a native and ancient tree species growing the Hyrcanian forests that have been considered in recent years because of being in the red lists of threated species. The aim of this research was to provide quantitative characteristics of forest stand structure using a set of indicators in the natural habitat of this species. Three one-hectare sampling area were selected to ...
full textNew records of endophytic fungi isolated from oak trees in Kurdistan province (Iran)
Oak is the most important forest tree in Kurdistan province (Iran). Fungi are associated with oak trees as parasite, saprophyte and endophyte. The endophytic fungi are known components of biodiversity and have beneficial effects on host plants. During 2012-13 in a survey on endophytic fungi of oak trees in forest regions of Kurdistan province asymptomatic samples were collected from healthy twi...
full textIdentification of some fungi accompanying the scab symptoms in Iran
Some fungal species were isolated from scab or scab-like symptoms on leaves of various plant hosts in Iran. Some of them isolated from apple and pear leaves were investigated in the present study. The isolates were identified based on the morphological and cultural characteristics. On the other hand, for molecular identification and phylogenetic analyses were carried out based on the sequence o...
