Hypophosphatemia Dependent Rickets with Failure to Thrive (FTT) in a 4- Years Old Child: a Case Report
Authors
Abstract:
BackgroundRickets is a disorder due to impaired metabolism of bone mineralization which caused by low concentrations of extra-cellular calcium or phosphate. In children, hypophosphatemic rickets (HR) happen malabsorption of phosphate and increasing of renal tubular loss.Case Presentation We present the case of a 4-year-old girl who had medical history of HR with failure to thrive (FTT). Child hospitalized several times due to osteomalacia and leg fractures. In physical examinations, there were obvious signs of rickets such as bow legs and hands, deviations of the wrist and chest pigeon. The results of blood tests showed low level of Phosphorus; but the level of calcium was normal. Radiography showed deformity of wrists and hands. ConclusionHR should be considered as one of the childhood disorders which impairs metabolism of bone mineralization and cause osteomalacia and bones fractures. If HR undiagnosed and remedies poor during childhood, in older ages would reveal automatic fractures and mineralization defects.

full textAdrenocortical carcinoma in a 8 years old child: a Case Report
Background:Unilateral tumors or masses of the adrenal gland are common. They are categorized as either functional (hormone-secreting) or silent and as either benign or malignant. Adrenocortical tumors are rare in childhood, with an incidence of 0.3-0.5 cases per one million child-years. Almost half of childhood tumors are adrenocortical carcinomas (ACC). Most ACCs are sporadic, but specialy i...
full textUncommon Manifestation of Complex Partial Seizure in a 7 Years old Child ; a Case Report
Complex partial seizures are known as focal seizures with impaired awareness. Excluding the first year of life, complex partial seizures are the most frequent type of seizures in patients with epilepsy. A detailed history of the patient and family members is a vital element in diagnosing seizures. Although rare, psychotic and anxiety symptoms in individuals may be the result of the seizure. A 7...
full textNutritional rickets in a 2-year-old child: case report.
Osteomalacia is a disorder of the adult skeleton in which mineralization of newly formed bone is defective. In children, the disease is manifested as rickets. Bone mineralization requires normal plasma concentrations of calcium, phosphate, and vitamin D. A deficiency of these factors results in impaired cartilage calcification, widening of the ends of long bones, abnormal mineralization of bone...

Abstract: Background: Ellis–Van-Creveld syndrome (EVC), otherwise known as chondroectodermal dysplasia. EVC presents several skeletal manifestations and congenital heart malformations. EVC syndrome consists of a tetrad of principal features: chondroectodermal dysplasia, polydactyly, congenital heart defects, and hypoplastic nails and teeth. In this syndrome alteration in the mechanical proper...

The most common cause of gastric outlet obstruction in neonates and infants is hypertrophic pyloric stenosis. Pyloric web as a cause of gastric outlet obstruction is relatively rare in children and presents with non bilious vomiting, abdominal pain and failure to thrive. The onset of symptoms is usually late with nonspecific symptoms like vomiting and failure to thrive that seems to be due to n...
