Histopathologic Changes of Rat Liver Following Formaldehyde Exposure
Authors
Abstract:
Purpose: This study was designed to determine the histopathologic changes of rat liver while all of the experiments were exposed to formaldehyde for 18 weeks. Materials and Methods: This study was performed on 28, 6-7 week postantal allbino wistar rats. The rats were divided into 3 case groups (E1: 4h/d, 4d/w; E2: 2h/d, 4d/w; E3: 2h/d, 2d/w) and 1 control group. The liver specimens were sectioned at 6 mm and stained with H&E technique for histopathologic study. Results: In group E3, some cells showed eosinophilic cytoplasm and oncocytic view, while others showed focal ground glass view as well as sinusoidal and portal artery dilation. In group E2, sinusoidal dilation and congestion were seen. Mononuclear cell infiltration and regeneration of hepatocytes in priportal space were seen among cases of group E1. Conclusion: The results of this study show that formaldehyde vapor in the concentrations similar to our study, can make histopathologic changes which could be detectable by light microscope. But there is no direct relationship between the duration of exposure to formaldehyde vapor and the intensity of histopathologic changes in the liver.

Changes in Liver Contents of Lipid Fractions Following Titanium Exposure
The potential to cause tissue damage by metal ions is the matter of widespread investigation. Titanium salts are widely used in industry for ceramic painting, in pharmacy for tablet coating and making chemical sunscreens and in medicine as photo catalysts with bactericidal activity. This may address the idea that the exposure to these salts could play a role in metabolic disorders. In this stud...

full textEvaluation of some Enzymatic Changes in the Liver and Kidney of Rats Following Exposure to Sublethal Concentration of Potassium Cyanide
Background: Besides acute lethal cyanide poisoning, its chronic intoxication may also produce some pathologic effects on different tissues that precedes alterations in biochemical parameters. The present study was aimed to evaluate the effects of sublethal cyanide exposure on some tissue enzyme activities in liver and kidney of rats. Methods: Twelve male rats were divided into two groups as ...
full textPreliminary morphological and biochemical changes in rat liver following postnatal exposure to sodium arsenite
The effects of sodium arsenite exposure on the hepatic maturation period of cellular and functional reorganization in developing rat livers were evaluated. Animals received intraperitoneal injections of sodium arsenite (1.5 mg/kg body weight) or distilled water on days 9 to 28 after birth. On day 29, the animals were sacrificed either by cervical dislocation or by perfusion fixation. The perfus...
full textHistologic and histomorphometric changes of testis following oral exposure to methyl tertiary-butyl ether in adult rat
Methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) is used to reduce carbon monoxide and ozone in urban air and to boost fuel octane. There is a lack of knowledge in the literature about the histomorphometric changes of the testis following exposure to MTBE. Therefore, this experimental study was performed to determine the effect of oral exposure to MTBE on histologic and histomorphometric changes of testis in...
