Genetic Analysis of Avian Orthoavulavirus Type I (AOAV-1) Strains Isolated from Broiler Flocks
Authors
Abstract:
Background and aim: Newcastle disease (ND) is one of the most serious diseases among many species of birds and causes devastating effects on the poultry industry. This disease is endemic in Iran and ND outbreaks occur unexpectedly and with high mortality and severe clinical signs. The sequence of the F protein cleavage site is that the major virulence determinant of Newcastle disease virus (NDV). This study aimed to understand the molecular characterization of three NDVs isolated from commercial broilers from Qazvin provinces during 2019-2020. Thus, we can design appropriate control programs by obtaining useful data. Materials and Methods: The partial open reading frame sequences of the F gene and haemagglutinin-neuraminidase (HN) genes of three isolates were amplified and sequenced. All sequences were edited using BioEdit Package and phylogenic trees were created based on the partial F gene sequences of isolates attained in this study and other NDV sequences available in GenBank with MEGA7 software. Results: The phylogenetic analysis displayed that the viruses belonged to genotype VII and further clustered into sub-genotype VII.1.1. Analysis of the F protein showed polybasic amino acid motif and a phenylalanine at position 117 at the cleavage site. Conclusions: The similarity of these strains could indicate the entry of migratory birds from neighboring countries into Iran. Also, the role of backyard poultry is very important in the epidemiology of ND. This study proclaims the urgency of effective control strategies.

Molecular characterization of avian adenoviruses in Iranian broiler flocks
This study was conducted to molecularly detect avian adenoviruses in broiler flocks showing liver lesions and respiratory syndrome in northeast Iran. In total, 60 tissue samples were collected from broiler farms with liver lesions, respiratory syndrome and also from clinically healthy flocks. Six samples were positive; however, three samples were selected for molecular studies. PCR products wer...
full textAntimicrobial resistance in Campylobacter spp isolated from broiler flocks
The aim of this study was to assess the antimicrobial susceptibility of 62 Campylobacter spp. strains obtained from broiler flocks using the agar diffusion method. The Campylobacter spp strains were isolated from 22 flocks aged between 3 and 5 weeks of life, isolated from cloacae swabs, stools and cecal droppings in the farm and from the carcass rinsing in the slaughterhouse. Campylobacter spp ...
full textCharacterization of reoviruses isolated from some broiler breeder flocks in Iran
Avian reoviruses (ARVs) are considered as an important cause of several diseases in poultry, particularlyarthritis and tenosynovitis. Tenosynovitis and arthritis, which are among the causes of chronic lameness inbreeder flocks, can result in reduced egg production and culling of breeder hens. In this study, the molecularcharacteristics of ARVs in some broiler breeder flocks were investigated in...
full textMolecular tracking, through processing, of Campylobacter strains colonizing broiler flocks.
Many of the poultry flocks produced in the United Kingdom are colonized with Campylobacter, and the intensive nature of poultry processing usually results in contaminated carcasses. In this study, a previously reported molecular oligonucleotide probe method was used to track a specific flock-colonizing strain(s) on broiler carcasses during processing in two United Kingdom commercial poultry pro...
full textMolecular characterization of infectious bronchitis viruses isolated from broiler flocks in Bushehr province, Iran: 2014 - 2015
The aim of this study was to provide information on the molecular characteristic and the phylogenic relationship of infectious bronchitis viruses (IBV) strains in Bushehr province in comparison to other strains reported in the Middle East. Samples were collected from broiler flocks in Bushehr province during 2014 - 2015. These flocks had respiratory problems such as gasping, sneezing and bronch...
full textPhylogenetic analysis of Escherichia coli strains isolated from human samples
Escherichia coli (E. coli) is a normal inhabitant of the gastrointestinal tract of vertebrates, including humans. Phylogenetic analysis has shown that E. coli is composed of four main phylogenetic groups (A, B1, B2 and D). Group A and B1 are generally associated with commensals, whereas group B2 is associated with extra-intestinal pathotypes. Most enteropathogenic isolates, however, are assigne...
