Fuzzy based efficient drone base stations (DBSs) placement in the 5G cellular network
Authors
Abstract:
Currently, cellular networks are one of the essential communication methods for people. Providing proper coverage for the users and also offering high-quality services to them are two of the most important issues of concern in cellular networks. The fifth-generation cellular communication networks can provide higher data transmission rates, which lead to a higher quality of service but this higher rate has let to reduced antenna coverage in these networks. Besides this, natural and unnatural events in the environment can also affect the coverage of users in the cellular network. One way to resolve this issue is using drones as cellular antennas. The most important factor in providing good coverage and high-quality service for users is the optimal placement of antennas. In this article, the problem of finding the appropriate locations of drone base stations (DBSs) is modeled as a $P$-median optimization problem, where P is the number of required antennas to cover the users. We have used a fuzzy clustering algorithm to define a set of specified candidate points that are required to select the locations of DBSs in the $P$-median model. The optimal value of P was obtained using the bisection algorithm. Finally, the optimal positions of DBSs have been determined by solving the optimization problem. According to the results, in the case of a proper selection of fuzzy clustering parameters, better results will be obtained in comparison to the results of other approaches.

DroneCells: Improving 5G Spectral Efficiency using Drone-mounted Flying Base Stations
We study a cellular networking scenario, called DroneCells, where miniaturized base stations (BSs) are mounted on flying drones to serve mobile users. We propose that the drones never stop, and move continuously within the cell in a way that reduces the distance between the BS and the serving users, thus potentially improving the spectral efficiency of the network. By considering the practical ...

Recently, stochastic geometry models for wireless communication networks have been attracting much attention. This is because the performance of such networks critically depends on the spatial configuration of wireless nodes and the irregularity of node configuration in a real network can be captured by a spatial point process. However, most analyses of such stochastic geometry models for wirel...

full textOptimisation of Cellular Base Stations Placement in Territory with Urban and Environmental Restrictions by Mea
The realization of new cellular networks needs the mobile phone operator to choose optimal location for Base Stations (BSs) placement to reach the wider coverage of a considered territory and the minimum cost of the net itself, that is the minimum number of BSs. In the most situations, and in particular inside the cities, there are a lot of restrictions due to the limited number of available si...
full textAn efficient integer programming formulation for the assignment of base stations to controllers in cellular networks
In mobile networks, the assignment of base stations to controllers when planning the network has a strong impact on network performance. In a previous paper, the authors formulated the assignment of base stations to packet controllers in GSM-EDGE Radio Access Network (GERAN) as a graph partitioning problem, which was solved by a heuristic method. In this paper, an exact method is presented to f...
